Job description
Utrecht/Hybrid | 40 hours/week | Bachelor/Masters Degree |€4,800 and €6,000 gross per month, As a Systems Engineer, you are the technical cornerstone of large-scale solar and battery energy storage (BESS - Battery Energy Storage Systems) projects ranging from 10 to 100 MVA. You ensure that every system not only operates as intended, but performs at its best: safely, efficiently, and with future readiness in mind.
You translate project requirements into solid technical designs, oversee the integration across disciplines, identify opportunities for improvement, and ensure full compliance with all relevant standards and regulations. With your analytical mindset and hands-on approach, you help drive the energy transition at an industrial scale.
In short: you combine technology, sustainability, and systems thinking, building the energy systems of tomorrow.
Your responsibilities:
- Design and specify PV and battery storage systems, including HV/MV configuration, DC/AC configuration, EMS, IT networks (cyber security), and grid connection;
- Prepare and review single line diagrams (SLDs), technical drawings, and system architectures.
- Coordinate interfaces between solar installations, inverters, BESS control systems (EMS/BMS), battery modules, and grid connections;
- Select components (inverters, transformers, PCS, EMS, battery technologies, etc.) based on technical and economic criteria;
- Perform system sizing, round-trip efficiency (RTE), load flow analyses, and performance calculations, including availability assessments;
- Supervise FAT/SAT testing and commissioning activities;
- Support project management and commercial teams with technical input and tender preparation.Ensure compliance with relevant standards (NEN, IEC, EN) and safety regulations;
- Collaborate with suppliers, grid operators, and EPC partners to ensure integrated system performance.

Requirements
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related field;
- Solid knowledge of solar energy systems (PV) and battery energy storage systems (BESS);
- Experience with grid-connected systems, SCADA, EMS, and energy management;
- Familiarity with design tools such as AutoCAD, Eplan, PVSyst, ETAP, or equivalent;
- Understanding of electrical safety, grid codes, and power quality;
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail;
- Excellent communication skills in English, German is a big plus;
- Experience with HV/MV electrical installations is a pre;
- Knowledge of grid compliance requirements and connection processes with TSO/DSO is a pre;
- Certification in project management (e.g. PRINCE2, PMP) or systems engineering (e.g. INCOSE) is a pre;
- Experience with energy modelling and simulation software is a pre
