Job description
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated AIT (Assembly, Integration & Test) Technical Lead to oversee and coordinate technical workstreams, interface directly with our aerospace customer, and lead a multi-disciplinary team delivering key programme deliverables.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role requiring a strong background in AIT, solid programme/project management capability, and excellent communication skills. The successful candidate will act as the primary onsite liaison, ensuring the quality and timely delivery of work packages while supporting team development and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Lead technical planning and discussions with the customer to align on scope, delivery expectations, and priorities
- Act as the main onsite point of contact with the customer, building trust and ensuring clear communication
- Manage day-to-day workload and task allocation for the AIT engineering team
- Support candidate screening, interviews, and selection of AIT and production staff
- Coordinate training and upskilling for new and existing team members
- Monitor and ensure delivery of technical work packages in line with customer expectations and programme deadlines
- Provide insight on manufacturing and production processes, including integration, build sequencing, and scheduling
- Track progress and risks, escalating issues where needed and ensuring smooth team operation
Requirements
- Strong AIT experience within aerospace, space, or high-reliability sectors
- Demonstrated project/programme management skills (planning, scheduling, reporting, risk control)
- Excellent soft skills - clear communicator, approachable leader, effective in high-pressure environments
- Good knowledge of manufacturing/production processes, especially in cleanroom or space hardware environments
- Experience leading or managing technical engineering teams
- Comfortable working onsite in a customer environment, representing the business professionally
Desirable Skills
- Mentoring experience or supporting graduate/apprentice development in engineering teams
- Experience with tools such as DOORS, Jira, Windchill, PDM/PLM systems, or SAP
- Understanding of electrical safety, grounding, and EMC practices in an AIT context
- Familiarity with ECSS standards, test documentation (e.g. test specs, TRRs, DRBs), and hardware release processes
