Job description

The Senior Network Engineer is a key member of the Network Infrastructure team, ensuring efficient, productive and high quality network services and availability amongst Pulsant's multiple UK data-centres. This role will provide subject matter technical expertise to external clients & internal team members, primarily assisting them with networking incidents, requests and problems or change requests., Network Design and Planning:

  • Analyse network requirements and ensure sufficient capacity.
  • Select appropriate hardware and software components. (Cisco ASR Routers/RP/Line Cards/Juniper MX Routers/Switches)
  • Develop and document network architectures
  • Work on automating network processes with other business units.

Implementation and Configuration:

  • Configure and manage core network devices (routers, switches, firewalls) following change control.
  • Implement and test network protocols/capacity (e.g., TCP/IP, routing protocols).
  • Ensure network security configurations are compliant.

Troubleshooting and Optimisation:

  • Identify and resolve network performance issues and bottlenecks through case management in within SLA.
  • Assist/Supervise Escalations for other team members.
  • Monitor network performance/security and identify areas for improvement.
  • Optimize network configurations for efficiency and reliability and security.
  • Provide post incident support and reporting.

Maintenance and Support:

  • Provide ongoing support and maintenance for the core network infrastructure.
  • Ensure network devices are up-to-date with the latest software and firmware.
  • Document/Develop network processes and procedures.
  • Provide supervision and guidance for core network engineers
  • CVE analysis/testing/mitigation planning in conjunction with Cyber team.

Requirements

Do you have experience in TCP/IP?, * An experienced Network Engineer, with technical skills and experience as follows:

  • Experience configuring/developing/managing network monitoring and performance analysis tools.
  • Strong understanding of networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, BGP,MPLS,OSPF,EVPN/VXLAN/VRF/L3VPN).
  • In depth experience with core network devices (e.g., Cisco ASR9XXX, Juniper MX204, Juniper QFX5XXX).
  • Knowledge of network security principles.
  • Relevant industry certifications such as CCNP/CCIE, JNCIP/JNCIE-SP

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to deadlines.
  • Ability to mentor and support other members of the team.
