To enable digital transformation at scale across Home Office, we must empower our staff outside of DDaT to create appropriate solutions. With its focus on low-code development, the democratisation of Microsoft Power Platform will enable large numbers of 'Business Makers' to truly evolve the way we work and make best use of automation and AI to increase efficiency. To support those Business Makers on their digital journey, we need to grow the central Power Platform Team in CTO's Automation Centre., The Senior Power Platform Developer is key for our enablement programme. You will be expected to mentor and lead other engineers in technical tasks, ensuring that engineering work is done effectively.
You and your team will develop core components both for our team and the wider Power Platform community across Home Office, selecting appropriate technologies. Your subject matter expertise will enable you to operate with greater levels of autonomy and decision making.
You will work to our technical standards writing clean, secure code following a test-driven approach, ensuring the code is open as far as possible and can be re-used.
You will also deputise for the G7 Power Platform Technical Lead when required, as well as support recruitment and assessment activities.

What you will do
Supporting the G6 Head of Power Platform and G7 Power Platform Technical Lead, your main day to day responsibilities will be:
- Coaching/mentoring more junior engineers and leading technical tasks across your team to balance new and live services.
- Undertaking a breadth of development tasks to deliver secure, reliable and scalable software components in your team.
- Designing new software components using appropriate tools (low-code and code) and in line with standards, proving designs through prototyping.
- Keeping up to speed with the technology landscape working with other engineers to develop new approaches, maintaining a focus on automated development and deployment.
- Defining and documenting test cases for new software components.
- Supporting services you have delivered through regular maintenance activities, balancing your work with your leadership

Sift Stage

Interview Stage
Candidates reaching the required standard will then be invited to attend a final interview. The interview will assess your Technical Skills (SFIA Framework) and experience using technical and experience-based questions.
At the beginning of the interview, you will conduct a 20-minute presentation (including time for questions and answers). The presentation topic will be provided closer to your interview date, and we will request that it is sent ahead of this date.
Sift and interview dates
Sift will be conducted week commencing 10th November 2025.
Interviews will be held week commencing 24th November 2025. (Subject to the Panel's operational requirements/priorities)
Interviews will be conducted remotely via MS Teams.

For both new entrants and existing civil servants, the total compensation offer is a combination of base salary and, if applicable, a capability-based allowance. New entrants to the Civil Service will start on the pay range minimum. For existing civil servants, our policies on level transfer and promotion will apply. The pay range for this role is National: £60,300 - 66,330. London: £64,300 - £70,730.

Requirements
Do you have experience in Test cases?, As a Senior Developer you will have experience of:
- Experience designing components for cloud platforms (such as Power Platform, Azure, or AWS), working with other professions such as architects, and explaining concepts to non-technical stakeholders (Software Design - SWDN).
- Experience of software development in at least one of C# / Python / JavaScript, experience developing with Power Platform, and experience of leading reviews of colleagues' work (Programming/Software Development - PROG).
- Expertise in designing secure modern database systems (using at least one of Dataverse, MySQL, NoSQL, or PostgreSQL), including transformation of data (Data Management - DATM).
- Experience of defining test cases and working with test professionals (Quality Assurance Testers) to enable comprehensive test coverage and reporting (Testing - TEST).
- Producing high quality documentation, resolving issues and incidents in live services, and devising ways to improve reliability and performance (Application Support - ASUP).
- Expertise in using Git and developing processes and procedures for a secure CI/CD capability, as well as Agile ways of working (Systems Integration and Build - SINT).
