Job description

Opportunity to lead enterprise technology for a specialty insurance group undergoing significant growth. The CTO will refine and deliver a multi-year technology strategy, complete a post-cloud-migration optimisation phase, and drive several strategic transformation initiatives, including AI-enabled automation. The role spans architecture, delivery, run, governance, cyber, data, and talent, partnering closely with senior leadership to improve service, cost, and agility., * Co-own and deliver the multi-year IT strategy, target operating model, and roadmap with the COO.

  • Define enterprise architecture and consolidation strategy ("common as possible, different as necessary") across platforms, data, integrations, networks, infrastructure, and SaaS.
  • Lead the IT function to ensure services are reliable, secure, and business-aligned; set clear standards and policies.
  • Oversee technology delivery within the change portfolio; partner with change leadership to execute strategic programmes.
  • Establish and evolve KPIs/metrics demonstrating cost, service, risk and delivery improvements; communicate in non-technical terms.
  • Produce high-quality Board/Committee reporting with clear issues, root causes, and actions.
  • Ensure robust IT governance, regulatory compliance, and effective risk management; strengthen cybersecurity strategy and incident response.
  • Own budgeting and annual planning; optimise resource allocation; assess outsourcing/automation models for resilience and cost.
  • Participate in steering groups to assure technology design and delivery quality.
  • Build, lead and develop a high-performing, diverse technology team; champion a culture of service, continuous improvement, and innovation.
  • Provide ad-hoc senior support to the COO and undertake related duties as required.
  • Uphold conduct rules: integrity, due skill/care/diligence, regulatory cooperation, fair customer outcomes, and proper market conduct.

Requirements

  • Proven CTO (or equivalent) in Financial Services, ideally with London market exposure.
  • Track record defining strategy, securing investment, and delivering complex, multi-platform transformations.
  • Strong enterprise architecture leadership and technology operating model design.
  • Deep experience building data capabilities and MI to support real-time decisioning.
  • Excellent grasp of regulated-market IT operations, service improvement, measurement and reporting.
  • Confident at Board/committee engagement; skilled at simplifying complexity for senior stakeholders.
  • Inclusive people leader: hires, develops, and retains top talent; sets clear objectives and accountability.
  • Commercially minded, organised, and customer-focused; balances tactical delivery with strategic outcomes.

Desirable but Not Essential

  • Hands-on experience with post-cloud optimisation, FinOps, and AI/automation initiatives.
  • Vendor ecosystem leadership and long-term partner management.
  • Familiarity with modern delivery (product operating models, DevOps, platform engineering).
