Job description
WSP is looking for a Systems Consultant to join our industry-leading Intelligent Infrastructure team. We provide consultancy and systems engineering services to transport clients throughout the UK and overseas. As a key member of our team you will be able to access a range of benefits, including targeted professional development, and the opportunity to contribute to the direction of our business and to help us improve the ways in which we grow. You will contribute to the capability of our digital systems engineering consultancy team, providing advice, assurance and delivery to clients across the system engineering lifecycle.
You will be part of a team that uses a tailored blend of lifecycle, service and business change delivery methods to provide high quality strategic advice, technical assurance, solution guidance, specification, system design, architecture, and testing assurance to mostly government clients.
You will work closely with your clients, sometimes as their first point of contact, for technical advice. You will be responsible for getting to the heart of their needs and challenges. You will challenge assumptions and bring your client solutions that create genuine benefit and exceed their expectations.
If you have a broad perspective and passion for future technology, and are experienced in the digital consultancy arena, then WSP Intelligent Infrastructure is the team for you. We work as consultants, designers, and thought-leaders, able to understand and articulate complex systems and give robust advice that is in the best interests of our clients and their customers.
Our immediate need is for a consultant who can autonomously deliver project work associated with operational technology (e.g. signs and signals) on the English trunk road network, guiding more junior members of staff and reporting into our technical leads.
In this role you will:
- Think strategically and build relationships - you'll apply thought leadership and build strong relationships with our clients and suppliers.
- Collaborate effectively with the team - plugging gaps as needed, working with a variety of clients, and colleagues, coaching/developing colleagues, and sharing successes.
- Be balanced and pragmatic, knowing when to apply processes and plans (be systematic) and when to apply flexible systems thinking.
- Join the dots and work across disciplines.
- Work independently in client facing environments and define project requirements for yourself. You'll use your strong problem-solving mindset, work effectively in ambiguous situations and escalate to senior staff when required.
Requirements
- A degree in a relevant engineering discipline and the added recognition of a professional registration with an accredited institute, or equivalent industry experience.
- At least practitioner level against all the INCOSE Systems Engineering Competency Framework core competencies, and at least practitioner level across a good spread of the professional, management and technical competencies.
- Have domain knowledge in a relevant industry, that could be transportation or operational technology, business IT, software or engineering consultancy.
- Experience of applying systems assurance to sizeable projects and programmes, and experience in client-facing roles.
