Job description

Contentful operates highly scalable high throughput cloud infrastructure that enables our products to deliver reliable value to our customers.

We're looking for a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer (f/m/d) who cares deeply about building and operating robust, secure, and scalable infrastructure. You'll help shape the backbone that supports hundreds of billions of requests per month, working in an engaging environment and tackling various challenges.

This is not just about maintaining systems - it's about improving them thoughtfully. You'll work in a team that values short, fast iterations while always keeping long-term strategy in mind. We are focused on solving real problems and delivering value to both internal and external customers.

You'll join a team of thoughtful, collaborative engineers who support each other, share knowledge freely, and work closely with product teams. If you're someone who thrives on responsibility, takes pride in enabling high performance infrastructure - this might be the right place for you.

  • You'll design, build, and maintain infrastructure that must be highly available, secure, and scalable - serving billions requests per month
  • You'll work with AWS using Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code best practices.
  • You'll deploy and optimize Kubernetes clusters and help ensure that workloads scale and recover gracefully.
  • You will work Edge and Serverless technologies to deploy a globally distributed infrastructure.
  • You'll collaborate across domains and teams to enable infrastructure improvements
  • You'll work to improve observability at scale
  • You'll help us stay ahead of operational risks - anticipating bottlenecks or failure points before they cause problems.
  • You'll be involved in incident response, postmortems

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience building and operating cloud infrastructure in high-availability environments
  • Strong AWS knowledge across core services: VPC, ALB, EKS, EC2, S3, Lambda, Route53, RDS, ElastiCache, SNS/SQS, etc.
  • Experience working with Serverless technologies like Fastly Compute, AWS Lambda and/or Cloudflare Workers
  • Terraform expertise for infrastructure provisioning
  • Practical experience with Kubernetes (ideally EKS), including workload tuning, autoscaling, and troubleshooting under load
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Go preferred)
  • Understanding of networking concepts: routing, DNS, load balancing
  • Familiarity with CDN/Edge systems and how they interact with backend systems
  • Comfortable debugging distributed systems issues across Edge, Network, Compute, and Storage layers
  • Experience with observability stacks (metrics, logs, tracing) and tools like Splunk and New Relic
  • Familiarity with SRE practices: SLO, SLA, etc.
  • Excellent English communication skills, verbal and written (German not required).
  • A collaborative mindset: you're helpful, respectful, and enjoy sharing knowledge
  • Ability to context switch, work through ambiguity, and contribute across multiple workstreams
  • You lead by example, mentor others, and embrace a culture of safe experimentation and continuous improvement
