Job description

  • In collaboration with the Head of Client Engineering, you will grow into being responsible for delivering the software for a flagship client programme, and ensuring it meets their needs. This will require:
  • Stakeholder management and building relationships with clients directly.
  • Developing the strategy and architecture that will be required to meet their needs, identifying opportunities to meet the ambitious timelines.
  • Responsibility for operational health, making decisions on quality vs. speed.
  • Close collaboration with a range of internal peers including Quality, Delivery, Product, Customer Success and Commercial.
  • You will be a manager of one or more teams of engineers. Engineering Managers contribute to both the technical and product vision of their teams, making sure that their products are successful.
  • Providing technical guidance and line management of one or more engineering managers.
  • Helping teams to make technical decisions that align with our business objectives and long term goals, including building strong relationships with the Product, Design and Commercial partners to your teams.
  • Contribute to our overall strategy of deploying to additional clients.

Requirements

Ideally you'll:

  • Have significant experience in an Engineering Management position, developing high performing cross functional teams.
  • Have a strong technology background, ideally in scalable distributed applications and an excellent understanding of a broad set of modern technologies, especially including event based systems such as Kafka.
  • Have a track record of delivering high-quality, high-impact software effectively.
  • Be able to communicate and present effectively to clients, giving them confidence in our approach and progress.

What will set you apart

  • The ideal candidate would ideally have a background in client-facing roles, including solutions engineering, presales or consulting, with a proven ability to translate complex client needs into effective technical solutions.
  • Any experience in any of the following domains would be a benefit - but are not required:
  • Billing, Finance and Ledger tooling within enterprise applications;
  • Integration with Payments systems;
  • eCommerce and proposition management platforms;
  • Energy generation or supply, especially integration with DSOs.
  • Experience managing blended teams of internal engineers and external consultancies effectively.
  • Experience transforming software engineering teams and practices through the use of AI, ML and/or LLMs.
