About the Role: The Senior Design Engineer will lead the delivery of high-quality design solutions using SolidWorks and AutoCAD, ensuring all products and systems are developed to the highest standards of performance, safety, and reliability. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, the successful candidate will contribute to product development, continuous improvement, and the creation of advanced automated systems for industrial applications. This role requires a hands-on technical leader capable of managing projects from initial concept through to production handover, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring best-in-class engineering practices across the department. Key Responsibilities - Senior Mechanical Design Engineer:
- Lead the mechanical design of bespoke equipment and systems from concept to manufacture
- Deliver detailed 3D models, 2D drawings, and supporting documentation using SolidWorks and AutoCAD
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring on-time delivery and adherence to quality standards
- Work collaboratively with production, operations, and maintenance teams to ensure designs are practical and optimised for manufacture
- Take ownership of design reviews, risk assessments, and compliance checks
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers
- Engage with suppliers to specify and source components for custom-built assemblies
- Maintain accurate design records and documentation for full traceability
- Contribute to product testing, verification, and continuous improvement initiatives
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in a mechanical or manufacturing design role
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD, with proven ability to produce accurate and detailed technical drawings
- Excellent understanding of mechanical systems, metal fabrication, and production processes
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple design projects and meet demanding deadlines
