Job description

Security Services Group (SSG) is the MOD's Technical Authority for electronic and physical security providing in-house expert advice, design, installation and maintenance of electronic and physical security systems across Government, prioritised towards Secret and Above Secret, and items Attractive to Criminal and Terrorist Organisations (ACTO). SSG is part of GUARDIAN and is positioned within Standing Joint Command to support UK homeland security and resilience. With an FTE of 325, SSG provides technical specialist 'consultancy' advice to projects to support the creation of design specifications through to commissioning; project management and delivery with through life maintenance; strategic and tactical compliance assurance reviews and audits across the business; an assured government use only Intruder Detection System built in-house; and security furniture services. Head of SSG is also the MOD's Head of Specialism for Physical Security across the MOD (part of the Government Security Profession). SSG's Operational Delivery teams are the MOD's specialist in-house security providers, delivering project management, design, installation and 24/7, 365 days a year maintenance of all aspects of electronic and physical security, with a global reach. SSG's work is independently audited to ensure, ISO 9001:2015 and NSI compliance and accreditation as well as MOD's own internal compliance regime. To learn more about SSG, visit Security Services Group - GOV.UK Security Services Group Overseas provide the full range of SSG services to MOD and wider government estates overseas. This includes support to Permanent Joint Operating Bases, overseas training locations, and overseas operational areas. Support ranges across the project lifecycle from initial security advice, to design, installation, maintenance, and decommissioning of SSG equipment. Each function is delivered through a blend of UK and overseas based personnel supporting activity in over 20 countries. The tour length is XX-years/months. This position is advertised at 37 hours per week. This is an established MOD post within Cyprus and any Cypriot Nationals will not be eligible to apply as a UKBC (UK British Civil Servant)., The Security Services Group (SSG) is seeking a Maintenance Manager to join its Cyprus based team. As Maintenance Manager, you will be a key interface for SSG in Cyprus, representing the organisation at high-level external meetings and ensuring the successful delivery of the SSG maintenance contract in order to meet Key Performance Indicators and maintain integrity of all SSG maintained security systems. The role also requires oversight of SSG detachments in Gibraltar and Germany. Managing a team of engineers and working alongside a Cyprus based project manager, this is a leadership role requiring strong technical expertise, financial management skills, and the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders. Key responsbilities: Customer & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Represent SSG at external meetings, acting as the key liaison with SSG Project Managers and Client Security Officers for maintenance locations.

  • Lead complex discussions and negotiations to ensure service expectations are met. Team Management:

  • Help manage an in-house team of skilled technicians (Skill Zones) to ensure maintenance contracts are delivered on time, to quality standards, and within budget.

  • Help manage the other SSG detachments located Overseas. Financial & Budget Control:

  • Oversee estimating, job costing, invoicing, and budget management, providing clear financial reports to the SSG Overseas Team Leader. Operational & Technical Oversight:

  • Interpret and develop operational and client requirements, supporting the team in delivering functional and compliant security solutions.

  • Ensure adherence to British, European, and Government Standards related to security, quality assurance (QA), and health & safety (H&S).

  • Receive full functional training on specific systems to meet business needs. Additional Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for customer call-outs, logging issues on the SSG maintenance system (CASH).

  • Allocate jobs to SZ4 Technicians, track progress, and ensure timely job completion.

  • Prepare and issue customer quotes and invoices in line with desk notes., Based at RAF AKROTIRI and using Service Family Accommodation or single person equivalent, work is at SSG customer sites within Cyprus. In addition, the post holder may be required to provide support to other SSG overseas locations. Allowances Where applicable, allowances are provided, including:

  • Travel Time (for travel outside of core hours)

  • On-Call Allowance

  • Recall-to-duty Allowance

  • Travel and Subsistence for out-of-region and overtime assignments. Essential Skills, Experience, Qualifications, Memberships & Licences

  • Full understanding of IDS, AACS and VSS installations and planned maintenance thereof.

  • Prior experience in managing engineers or technical staff, deemed essential.

  • Full UK driving licence. Desirable Skills, Experience, Qualifications, Memberships & Licences

  • Previous experience of working in an office-based team with good organisational skills.

  • Prospective applicants ideally should have good IT skills and working knowledge of the MS Office suite of applications and MOD Systems: CASH and CP&F.
