Job description
We're hiring a Senior Software Engineer to shape the next frontier of Enode's platform - Flex - our orchestration layer that enables real-time grid flexibility at scale. You'll build the foundations for how millions of connected energy devices coordinate with the grid, helping unlock the next phase of the renewable energy transition.
You'll be part of Team Flex, a small, fast-moving, and high-impact team working closely with the CTO and customer-facing teams to bring our flexibility orchestration product from 0 * 1.
Flex started as an initiative shared across teams, but is now becoming a dedicated product area with its own roadmap and growing customer demand.
In this role, you will:
- Design, build, and scale the backend systems that power our flexibility engine, from real-time asset connectivity and site-level optimization to aggregated-load modeling, dispatch, and control.
- Collaborate with engineers across Enode to extend the existing platform for more complex grid-scale use cases.
- Work directly with customers and internal stakeholders to translate complex requirements into robust, production-ready systems.
- Own the reliability and scalability of key systems as we move from pilots to live customer deployments.
- Approach problems with a builder's mindset, combining speed and pragmatism with a high bar for quality.
This role will be right for you, if:
You're energized by the challenge of building something new. You move comfortably between high-level architecture and hands-on implementation, and you care deeply that what you build makes a measurable climate impact.
Requirements
You're at your best when things are uncertain, when clarity has to be created rather than handed to you, and when collaboration happens with people across disciplines (from founders to customers).
- You have experience writing maintainable, testable backend code, ideally in an API or integration-heavy environment.
- You've worked on distributed systems or large-scale backend services and understand how to design for reliability, scalability, and performance in production.
- You take ownership from idea to production including scoping, building, and iterating quickly based on feedback.
- You're proactive and self-directed, bringing clarity to ambiguity and thriving in unstructured, fast-moving environments.
- You balance speed and quality, knowing when to ship fast and when to invest in long-term foundations.
- You communicate clearly and confidently, collaborating effectively with senior engineers, founders, and customers to solve complex problems.
- You're motivated by impact and customer success, not just technical elegance.
- Bonus: you've worked with TypeScript/Node, AWS, or real-time data systems (like DynamoDB, TimescaleDB, or Axiom), handled on-call responsibilities, or built API-first or energy/IoT products.
Benefits & conditions
- Opportunity to join and impact an early-stage climate tech startup with global aspirations as we scale.
- A mission-driven, fun and caring environment with high drive and ambition.
- Competitive compensation, including a very attractive employee option program - you're part of our journey.
- Remote-first in Europe, with the option of attending an office in Oslo or receiving a co-working pass on demand.
- Three annual off-sites to connect with the team in exciting & fun places.
- Flexible, human-first culture.
- Stipend for setting up your home office.
