Job description

The Director of IT, who has overall responsibility for all IT staff.

Responsible for:

The Senior IT Technician who holds End User Computing responsibility supports and enhances the digital experience of students, educators, and administrative staff. Ensuring that computing devices, software applications, and digital learning environments operate seamlessly across the school.

Technicians with End User Computing specialisms are responsible for managing and supporting end-user devices (laptops, desktops, tablets), ensuring optimal performance, security, and usability. The ideal candidate will have a passion for technology in education and a commitment to delivering exceptional service in a dynamic learning environment.

Main responsibilities:

  1. Providing technical support for end-user devices including but not limited to Windows, macOS, iOS, VOIP and Chrome OS platforms.

  2. Providing 2nd and occasional 3rd line support to the Service Desk on a day-to-day basis for escalated incidents.

  3. Working with the IT Director to procure and configure appropriate devices for a school and enterprise environment.

  4. Managing device lifecycle: configuration, deployment, maintenance, and decommissioning.

  5. Being the point of escalation for hardware and software issues, escalating where necessary.

  6. Maintaining, monitoring and updating endpoint security, antivirus, and compliance policies to meet the NCSC's Cyber essentials guidelines.

  7. Collaborating with teaching staff to ensure technology supports curriculum delivery.

  8. Assisting with classroom technology setups and installation including interactive whiteboards, projectors, and AV equipment.

  9. Collaborating with the Service Desk Manager to document procedures, FAQs, and user guides to support digital literacy.

  10. Monitoring and reporting on device usage, performance, and user satisfaction.

  11. Participating and leading in IT projects related to digital transformation and infrastructure upgrades.

  12. Providing assistance and cover for the Senior Technician with Cloud & Networks Responsibility.

Staff are expected to be familiar with the local child protection arrangements and understand their responsibilities to safeguard and protect children and young people.

Requirements

Do you have experience in macOS?, 5 GCSEs at grade 9 to 4 (A* to C) or equivalent, including English and Mathematics, Experience in IT support in an educational institution or similar environment.

Familiarity with educational technologies and platforms (e.g., MIS, LMS, AV systems).

Familiarity with technologies and platforms (e.g., Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Apple Business Manager)

Good knowledge of operating systems (Windows 10/11, macOS, iOS)

Good knowledge of MDM solutions (Intune, Jamf, Google Admin Console).

Knowledge of Windows deployment platforms (Autopilot, OSD Cloud, MDT, SCCM/MECM)

Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

Basic scripting and automation skills (PowerShell, Graph)

Knowledge of Cyber Security Frameworks and Practices (Cyber Essentials)

Experience with GDPR, or other data privacy regulations

Knowledge of ITIL service management practices.
