Grid Automation offers its customers a complete range of innovative products, systems and services covering design and manufacture, as well as commissioning and long-term maintenance of Substation Protection and Automation solutions.
Grid Automation Technical Applications Engineers (TAE) provide support in the co-ordination and execution of projects, commercial and technical activities relating to the Grid Automation Business in the ERCIS Region.
Own the project control activity globally and drive consistent functional specifications and common global processes for projects implementation. Activities that are conducted to better understand or ultimately meet the expectations of the customer Impacts approaches, projects and programs in the functional area or affected business organisation and ways of working. Impacts quality, efficiency and effectiveness of own team.

Essential Responsibilities:

Execute the review, analysis and resolution of assigned customer application enquiries using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / deadline requirements.

Provision of technical support to internal and external customers on the complete range of Grid Automation portfolio both remotely and face to face meetings. The role will consist of both office-based responsibilities and visits to customer sites in the UK and overseas.

Assist the commercial/sales organisation in ensuring the best technical solution, promotion of complete GA portfolio, presentations and assistance during technical negotiations as well as completing formal tenders in line with customer specifications.

Understanding of power Industry, trends, and practices along with customer roadmaps and challenges/expectations.

Gather market intelligence and understand competitors' products to aid in GA future roadmap.

Work with commercial team to spec-in and homologate GA portfolio.

Provide technical support to the Operations / Service Team
s to aid in the execution projects, FATs, SAT and site commissioning. -
Conduct customer trainings to help customers in the application and the operation of the Grid Automation portfolio.

Provide training to GE employees on latest portfolio.

Attendance and presentation at trade shows, seminars, and conferences as necessary, both in the UK and overseas

Preparation of technical papers to promote GE

Provides technical expertise and develops technical solutions (configuration, performance estimation, economics, etc.) as part of the pre-ITO (requisition) process while interfacing with the commercial team.

Possesses a deep understanding of relevant markets and customer economic value that aid winning bid strategies. To include 'ITO': Technical analysis of client need: definition and optimization of the products; scope (description); schedule; industrial scheme; cost, considering contract and internal policies and procedures.

Calculation of plant, system and equipment performance and efficiency.

Documentation of technical specifications & costing elements for further contract execution phases. This also includes OTR part where engineers work on customizing the products and implementing it for specific customer needs

Developing specialised knowledge in their discipline. Serves as best practice/quality resource. Has awareness of latest technical developments in own area. Contributes towards strategy and policy development, and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.

Requirements
- This role requires significant experience in the Engineering / Technology & Customer Application Engineering.
- Knowledge level is comparable to a Master's degree from an accredited university
- Demonstrated experience in a customer facing engineering position.
- Working knowledge of substation protection, substation automation and RTUs and be able to assist the customers in the selection and implementation of the best GE solution for their applications.
- Ability to analyse specific applications and produce technical reports.
- Commercial acumen and basic financial awareness.
- Confidence in presenting and communicating to customers and fellow colleagues
- Advanced substation protection and substation control system applications knowledge within T&D segment .
- Advanced Protective Relay Knowledge.
- Be onsite in Stafford 3 days per week.
- Open to occasional European travel., * Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse and resolve problems.
- Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
- Established project management skills.
- Knowledge of GA portfolio would be desirable along with understanding of competition products and solutions.
- Experience with IEC 61850 based substation automation solutions and cyber security standards is highly desirable.
- Site testing and commissioning experience of substation protection and substation control system is highly desirable
- From a DNO, TSO and power systems background is highly desirable
- Experience with network protocols, HMI systems, and software packages are highly desirable.
- Experience in working in a substation environment would be desirable.
- Use and understanding and experience of testing practices and equipment is desirable.

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between £63,700.00 and £95,600.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set.
Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
