Job description

A leading national technology and distribution group is seeking a reliable, hands-on Infrastructure Engineer to manage and improve secure, high-availability systems across on-premise and Azure cloud environments. Based primarily at the company's Milton Keynes HQ, this is a delivery-focused role where ownership, consistency, and a collaborative attitude are valued just as highly as technical skill. About the Role You'll be part of a lean, supportive infrastructure team responsible for the day-to-day stability, security, and resilience of the group's hybrid IT estate. The focus is on well-documented, repeatable processes, strong operational support, and proactive risk management. You'll also work closely with internal stakeholders on infrastructure initiatives and business-critical systems. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and support hybrid infrastructure across on-premise and Azure environments
  • Maintain servers, storage (SAN/NAS), firewalls, and networking infrastructure
  • Oversee patching, backups, disaster recovery plans, and system documentation
  • Respond to incidents quickly and methodically to reduce technical risk
  • Contribute to infrastructure upgrades and new deployments across sites
  • Collaborate within Agile-style workflows, including sprint planning and retrospectives

Requirements

  • Solid background in Microsoft infrastructure, Azure, and virtualisation (VMware or Hyper-V)

  • Comfortable troubleshooting issues across networking, storage, and firewalls

  • Familiar with cybersecurity best practices, including endpoint protection

  • Well-organised, documentation-focused, and comfortable working in a structured, process-driven environment

  • Happy to be on-site full-time in Milton Keynes, with occasional travel to Birmingham Desirable Experience

  • Palo Alto or Fortinet firewalls

  • SAN/NAS provisioning and tuning (e.g. Dell, HPE)

  • LogicMonitor or similar infrastructure monitoring tools

  • Working knowledge of Agile within an IT operations team
