Job description

As a BI Developer, you'll play a key role in turning data into insights that help shape decisions across the business. You'll be part of the team driving our data strategy forward, making sure we've got the tools and processes in place to make smarter, faster choices.

We're on an exciting journey right now, building new ways of working, introducing fresh tech, and creating a modern cloud-based data platform that sets us up for the future.

Day to day, you'll be hands-on with prototyping solutions, building data models, reports, and visualisations, and bringing new data sets into our BI tools. You'll work closely with our Data Platform and Engineering teams to make sure we're meeting the growing demand for data across the company. Along the way, you'll follow best practices, support your fellow BI developers, and help us keep improving as a team.

Here's What You Can Expect To Be Doing

You'll work closely with stakeholders to understand what they need and make sure our solutions hit the mark. From designing clear, actionable visualisations to building and maintaining solid data models, you'll help bring insights to life. You'll play a big part in modernising our architecture, moving processes onto a cloud-based platform using best practices, while keeping everything documented and easy to follow. When issues or change requests pop up, you'll tackle them quickly and keep things running smoothly. We're always looking to improve, so you'll help optimise performance, enhance BI processes, and make sure our reporting is efficient and scalable. Security and compliance are key, and you'll stick to standards that keep our data safe. Plus, you'll follow coding best practices to ensure everything we build is consistent, high-quality, and easy to maintain.

Requirements

  • Passionate about data - You love working with data, have a sharp eye for detail, and always aim for top-quality solutions.
  • Great communicator - You can explain complex ideas clearly, whether it's in writing or face-to-face.
  • Agile team player - You're comfortable in fast-moving environments and work brilliantly with others.
  • Problem solver - You spot issues early and come up with smart, practical fixes.
  • Adaptable - You're happy to switch priorities and keep things moving when plans change.
  • Tech enthusiast - You stay up to date with the latest tools and trends and look for ways to use them in your work.
  • Detail-focused - Accuracy matters to you, from analysis through to documentation.

Essential skills

  • BI tools - Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar visualisation tools.
  • SQL and databases - Strong knowledge of SQL, data warehousing concepts, and database management.
  • ETL processes - Understanding of ETL tools like SSIS, AWS Glue, or DBT.
  • Data modelling - Ability to create and manage robust data models.

Desirable skills (nice to have, but we'll help you develop them if you don't)

  • Modern data platforms - Familiarity with Snowflake, Databricks, or similar.
  • Cloud services - Knowledge of AWS services like S3, Lambda, and MSK.
  • AI tools - Experience with tools like ThoughtSpot or Amazon QuickSight.
  • Big data tech - Exposure to Hadoop or Spark.
  • Data governance - Understanding of governance and data quality management.

We're proud to be different. From how we look to the way we talk to our customers, we skip to the beat of our very own drum. We know that being different together is our superpower and we celebrate it because it makes us stronger, more creative, and better at what we do.

We believe the people we employ should reflect the diversity of our customer base; that way, we can communicate in a way that recognises all backgrounds, races, ethnicities, genders, ages, religions, abilities, and sexual orientations.

And that's why we're asking these questions. Making sure our recruitment process is inclusive is a key part of what we're doing at AO to encourage diversity as an employer. Read more

How will we use the data?

After we've collated the data, we'll look at the patterns to assess if we are inclusive at each stage. If it turns out that we aren't, then the data may help us identify where we can improve.

The data collated won't have any impact on your application and is not shared with hiring managers or the recruitment team.

About the company

We're known for helping our customers brilliantly - and it's no different for AOers. We care about more than what's on your CV, because together we can do extraordinary things.
