Job description
Are you ready to take ownership of a global Loadbalancer platform serving millions of users? As a System Engineer, you'll architect, secure, and operate high-throughput infrastructure based on HAProxy and Envoy, all within a GitOps-driven environment. You'll collaborate across teams and act as a technical advisor-your work will directly influence the reliability and efficiency of our production systems.
We operate at serious scale: 3.5 billion logins per day, hundreds of petabytes of storage, and nearly half an exabyte of internet traffic annually. Join a team that's building a European alternative to email and cloud services, committed to privacy, digital sovereignty, and operating under European law.
- You own the design, operation, and continuous evolution of our Loadbalancer platform.
- You define rollout strategies such as Canary Routing and Blue/Green deployments, and implement them via GitOps pipelines.
- You monitor and optimize key metrics like request rates, response times, and error rates.
- You establish and enforce security policies for TLS, SNI, header handling, rate limiting, and circuit breakers.
- You present architectural concepts and platform strategies to internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
Do you have a degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience? Are you confident in designing and operating platforms in large-scale environments? Do you thrive in cross-functional collaboration and technical leadership? We believe the following skills and experiences will help you to be successful in this role:
- 5+ years of experience in designing and operating infrastructure at scale.
- Expertise in HAProxy and/or Envoy, including advanced configuration (ACLs, TLS termination, routing strategies).
- Strong proficiency in GitOps tools (e.g., ArgoCD, GitLab Runners), CI/CD pipelines, and secret management (e.g., Vault), as well as Debian packaging.
- Programming experience in Lua, WASM, Python, or Bash, along with strong debugging skills using logs, Prometheus metrics, and tracing tools.
- Excellent communication skills in English, with the ability to advise stakeholders and lead cross-functional initiatives.
