We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Infrastructure Platform Engineering team, ensuring the reliability, availability, and operational efficiency of our distributed systems. This role is ideal for engineers who thrive in highly scalable, cloud-native environments, focusing on incident response, observability, automation, and system resilience. As part of the Platform, Reliability and Infrastructure Operations group, you will work on proactive failure mitigation, operational tooling, service scaling strategies, and on-call effectiveness to ensure low-latency, highly available services across our compute, storage, CI/CD, and observability stacks. Platform Reliability Engineering at Affirms is a crucial team that helps our Engineering partners "Operate What They Own" with excellence to protect customer experience. Our team accomplishes this by defining frameworks and best practices for operating applications, building tooling, and providing training and consulting services. ? This role will help ensure our platform's resilience as we keep operating across multiple regions! What You'll Do * You will be responsible for owning and delivering quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers on your team through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems, and ensuring that everyone is supported throughout delivery. * You will support your peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design and analytics by participating in ideation, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on decisions that properly consider risks and trade-offs. * You will proactively identify project, process, technology or business issues, advocate for them, and lead in solving them. * You will

support the operations and availability of your team's artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting "keep the lights on" and on-call efforts. * You will foster a culture of quality and ownership on your team by setting or improving code review and design standards for your team, and advocating for them beyond your team through your writing and tech talks. * You will help develop talent on your team by providing feedback and guidance, and leading by example. * On-Call Rotation - There will be an on-call rotation for this role as a requirement. What We Look For * 5+ years of experience as a software engineer. * Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using technologies such as Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL. * Leverage Kubernetes expertise for cloud compute orchestration and troubleshooting. * Comprehensive traffic management to ensure scalable, reliable, and high-performance platform operations (especially for AWS environment). * Experience shipping web apps using declarative UI frameworks such as React or Vue. * Ensure high availability (HA) and resilience of critical services through runbooks, incident response strategies, and post-mortem analysis. * Partner with Observability and Reliability teams to proactively detect and mitigate potential outages. * Define technical plans for delivery of significant features or systems with elegant, simple, extensible design and write high quality code. * Automate operational tasks, deployments, failover processes, and scaling strategies to reduce manual intervention. * Proficiency at making significant changes in a large code base, developing tools and practices that enable safe changes. * Partner closely with Storage & Replication, Cloud, CI/CD, and Security teams to meet high operational standards. * Strong ownership mindset, proactively seeking feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders. * Excellent

Compensation & Benefits Base Pay Grade: N Equity Grade: 4 Employees new to Affirms typically come in at the start of the pay range. Affirms focuses on providing a simple and transparent pay structure which is based on a variety of factors, including location, experience and job-related skills. Base pay is part of a total compensation package that may include monthly stipends for health, wellness and tech spending, and benefits (including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental and vision for you and your dependents).
