Senior Platform Engineer

Square Health is looking for an experienced Senior Platform Engineer to facilitate in the delivery of our AWS/Azure platform. You will oversee multiple development, test, and staging environments, as well as the pipelines that publish code and content. Working closely with development squads and technical leads, you will design, build, secure and maintain the pipelines and environments that power our technology platform.

In this pivotal role, your expertise in Platform Engineering will help shape the future of the Square Health Technology Platform. You will act as a trusted technical authority, supporting engineering teams, implementing best practices and driving platform optimisation at scale.

What You'll Do:

Platform & Environment Development

• Develop standard application stacks for common use cases.
• Evolve prototype stacks into scalable, production-ready environments.
• Build reusable automation for deployment, upgrades and operations.
• Create monitoring and alerting solutions that work across multiple projects.

Collaboration & Best Practice

• Work with Engineering teams and business stakeholders to deliver solutions for evolving requirements.
• Partner with Tech Leads to develop and roll out Standard Operational Patterns.
• Maintain alignment with best practices in networking, cybersecurity, and cloud operations.

Technical Ownership

• Collaborate with Architects to design and implement cloud automation, monitoring and management functions.
• Integrate AWS/Azure telemetry with Enterprise monitoring systems.
• Analyse performance needs and size hosting environments appropriately.
• Mentor engineers and support the growth of the Platform Engineering function.
• Ensure we maximise value from centralised cloud management.

• Strong experience in AWS and/or Azure Platform Engineering.
• Azure: AKS, VMSS, Azure Files, App Service, Functions, Azure AD, VNet configuration.
• AWS: EKS, EC2, S3, Lambda, Elastic Beanstalk, IAM, VPC configuration.

Containerisation & DevOps

• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and container technologies (Docker/Podman).
• Bonus: experience with Helm, GitOps tools, Azure DevOps or AWS CodeBuild.

Technical Skills:

• Solid understanding of software delivery processes and automated pipelines.
• Ability to automate complex operational workflows with industry-standard tooling.
• Strong knowledge of cloud architectures, typical cloud technology stacks and cloud security.
• Background in platform/OS engineering; Linux required, Windows a plus.

Soft Skills:

• Excellent communication, able to translate requirements into practical cloud solutions.
• Calm under pressure with the confidence to ask for support when needed.
• Strong evaluation skills to assess competing technologies and recommend the best fit.
