Job description
Of the 22 tax offices in Rhineland-Palatinate, four locations have a tax investigation and criminal matters office (StraFa office). These are the tax offices in Koblenz, Trier, Mainz and Neustadt a.d.W. As a criminal prosecution authority, it is the task of the criminal investigation and prosecution offices to investigate tax offenses and administrative tax offenses and to uncover unknown tax cases.
In particular, their task is to develop case-related applications to support the investigative activities of tax investigators and to participate in searches to secure digital evidence. You will work very closely with your colleagues in IT forensics. Together, you will develop ideas for making electronic evidence available for investigations. You will communicate the solutions to your colleagues in workshops and training sessions. To gain an insight into the topic, you will take part in the necessary training measures (IT forensics basic course, tax investigation basic course).
What you should bring with you:
- Completed studies in the field of computer science
- good knowledge in the following areas:
- Operating systems (Windows, MacOS, Linux, also older versions)
- Hardware and software components of modern IT systems
- Modern software development
- databases
- Network technology
- Virtualization of systems
- a wide range of knowledge, including in:
- IT security (data carriers, networks and operating systems)
- Reverse engineering
Since this is a field service position and you will be participating in searches as an investigator for the public prosecutor's office or as an expert and official appraiser, the following are also required
- a class B driving license and the
- Willingness to travel on business (even at short notice)
absolutely necessary.
Requirements
Additional knowledge would be an advantage, but is not mandatory:
- Use of forensic software (X-Ways, FTK images, Grml, Nuix)
- Mobile forensics (iOS, Android, etc.)
- Evidence-proof handling of data backups
- Technical computer science
- Cryptography (encryption and decryption of files / file systems)
- Criminal procedure law / data protection law
- Basic knowledge of tax law

- Good written expression for the preparation of expert opinions and reports

This is an open-ended employment relationship in accordance with TV-L. If the requirements under collective bargaining law and personal requirements are met, a classification up to pay group E 12 TV-L can be made. If you are suitably qualified and meet the requirements under civil service law, it may be possible to become a civil servant at a later date.
