Job description
- Reporting into the ET SCADA Test Manager, each Test QA Analyst will be aligned to an agile workstream (either SCADA or EMS) to conduct Test Quality Assurance activities to ensure that the testing activities and artefacts produced by that workstream are of the required standard and scope.
- Working with the supplier Test Manager and Technical SMEs, the workstream Product Owner, SCRUM Master and SCADA SMEs, the QA lead will represent the NGET Test QA function at agile ceremonies such as Sprint Planning, Daily Stand Ups and Retrospectives ensuring that testing activities are correctly represented as User Stories and that the right NG stakeholders are engaged.
- Monitor and report on test readiness, preparation of Test Environments and reporting progress to SCRUM Teams and the Test Manager.
- During Test Preparation, review standard test case mappings to requirements and level 4 process steps. Ensure quality, detail and accuracy of new or updated scripts.
- During Test Execution, review test evidence ensuring it appropriately evidences test results; review defects and documentation ensuring correct recording and evidence.
- Participate in Test Delivery, assisting suppliers as required.
- Support JIRA usage and provide required reports for the Test QA Lead.
- Potential role in later phases for assurance of the test partner for SIT onwards.
- Ensure testing follows a common approach and is managed within central Test Tools in line with Test Strategy, Test Approach and Phase Test Plans.
- Work with Test Data and Environment Management Team to ensure suppliers and users have articulated their requirements and that these meet NG Requirements and Test Strategy.
- Work within SCRUM Teams ensuring test effort is represented in User Stories and test requirements are fully captured.
- Review detailed test scripts ensuring appropriate structure, detail and expected results.
- Review requirement and level 4 process mappings ensuring correctness and adequate test coverage.
- Ensure SME review is completed and support test manager in planning required SME support.
- Ensure defects are raised correctly with required detail and evidence.
- Review test results and evidence ensuring test objectives have been met.
- Monitor and report on test preparation progress in JIRA/XRAY, environment readiness and test quality.
- Ensure suppliers and users produce accurate execution estimates and escalate where these exceed planned time.
- Identify and manage risks and issues relating to testing.
- Maintain an issues log where quality standards are not met and collaborate with suppliers to resolve them.
- Agree action plans to resolve issues identified during preparation/execution, leading problem-solving when needed.
- Ensure defect management processes are followed; guide/lead defect triage ensuring correct stakeholders are engaged.
- Produce Test Status reports and KPIs (forecasts, dashboards, charts) keeping stakeholders updated.
- Participate in testing delivery if required, demonstrating the required level of quality.
- Be the testing expert for the assigned area-"The Voice of Test."
- Deputise for the ET SCADA QA Lead as required.
Requirements
- Good depth of Test Quality Assurance experience
- Experience of real-time operations for Power Network Control Systems Telemetry-based products Communications Protocols (IEC101) Alarm Management Network Monitoring & Forecasting Display (mimics) Workflow management Historian
- Strong experience testing across the Test Lifecycle
- Strong business process-based test experience; ability to understand, follow and explain complex business processes
- Strong test design, development and documentation skills, including User Stories, Test Scenarios and JIRA (JQL) Reports; good MS Office/Excel
- Experience using JIRA Test Management, Dashboard Reporting, Defect Management
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to power systems and control systems engineering (e.g., IEC 61850, IEEE standards)
- Strong technical testing knowledge including integration middleware Oracle MFT and Mulesoft APIs
- Experience working in an onshore offshore model
- Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to analyse complex technical challenges related to testing power/control systems
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate across disciplines and communicate technical concepts to stakeholders
