Job description

Our Public Sector Business Unit is growing rapidly, and we are looking for an experienced Lead Technical Architect to join our expanding team delivering high-impact digital and data transformation for UK Government clients.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong background in shaping and delivering complex technical solutions within Central Government-ideally gained in a consultancy or systems integrator environment. You will be instrumental in driving architectural best practices, supporting pre-sales activity, and leading the design of secure, scalable systems that underpin mission-critical public services.

You will have a broad understanding of technology strategy, architecture design, and delivery assurance across cloud platforms, application development, integration, and data. A confident communicator, you'll be comfortable engaging with senior stakeholders and technical teams alike, producing high-quality artefacts, and presenting architecture decisions clearly and persuasively. You will be used to working in fast-paced, high-trust environments, forming and leading architecture teams, and bringing clarity and structure to complex, ambiguous problems. A solid understanding of secure-by-design principles, government digital standards, and technology assurance is essential.

What youll be doing:

  • Lead the technical design and architecture of solutions for complex public sector programmes.

  • Define end-to-end architectures that span areas such as cloud platforms, applications, data, security, and integration layers.

  • Work with stakeholders to ensure solutions align to business goals, government policies, and technical constraints.

  • Support all phases of delivery, from discovery and alpha through to beta and live, ensuring compliance with GDS Service Standards and technology assurance processes.

  • Drive architectural decision-making, technical governance, and reusability across programmes.

  • Support pre-sales, bids, and client proposals, acting as a technical subject matter expert.

  • Mentor junior team members, providing leadership within our technical communities, and contributing to the evolution of our public sector offerings.

Requirements

  • Significant experience designing and delivering complex digital and data solutions in the UK Government or wider Public Sector.

  • Deep knowledge of enterprise architecture patterns, public cloud services (Azure, AWS), application design, integration patterns (API, event-driven), and data platforms.

  • Demonstrable success in shaping client strategies, designing operating models, and engaging in business case development and benefit modelling.

  • Experience of bid and pre-sales involvement, including shaping client proposals, contributing to SOWs, and presenting to commercial and technical stakeholders.

  • A sound understanding of government standards and frameworks, including the Digital Service Standard, GDS assessment criteria, NCSC cloud security principles, and relevant assurance models.

  • Experience working in agile delivery environments and collaborating across business and technology domains.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to articulate and advocate for strategic solutions at executive level.

Essential:

  • Extensive experience in a solution architecture or enterprise architecture role, with demonstrable impact in government or regulated industries.

  • Background in consulting, systems integration, or technology leadership within public sector environments.

Desirable:

  • Relevant certifications such as TOGAF, SAFe, or cloud architect qualifications (Azure/AWS).

  • Understanding of government technology assurance frameworks and legacy modernisation journeys.

  • Degree in a technology-related discipline or equivalent practical experience.
