Staff Frontend Engineer (AI Lab | £170,000)

• Build responsive, high-performance web UIs that make complex scientific data explorable and engaging.
• Lead frontend architecture, shaping reusable component libraries and design systems.
• Collaborate with machine learning researchers, engineers, and biologists to translate cutting-edge science into intuitive digital tools.
• Push the limits of frontend performance, accessibility, and interactivity.
• Write and maintain comprehensive unit and end-to-end tests to ensure reliability at scale.

• Strong experience with TypeScript/JavaScript and modern frameworks (React or similar).
• A proven track record of delivering polished, performant, and elegant user interfaces.
• Deep appreciation for UI/UX craftsmanship and accessibility.
• Familiarity with HTTP, REST APIs, websockets, and secure frontend patterns.
• A creative streak - you think visually and love turning complexity into clarity.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with 3D or WebGL rendering, or other data-rich visualisations.
