Our office is in central Reading. We offer flexibility in where you work and we'll expect you to attend the office a minimum of two days a month. When you join us, we expect you to be in the office more frequently to settle into the TRA. This policy may be subject to change., Are you passionate about data and eager to make an impact? We are looking for an experienced data engineer to help us get the most out of our data at the TRA. Our investigations into unfair trade practices require and generate a significant amount of varied data. We would like you to help the TRA to make sense and make use of that data. You will help the TRA set-up our data engineering function by defining our data engineering best practices. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team in a complex data environment to design, build, and deliver high performance, secure, scalable data solutions - adapting and developing our CI/CD and DevOps working practices. You will also work together with Digital & Technology colleagues to evolve how the TRA works with Digital and Data, delivering digital products and services for the organisation. You will be based within the Data & Monitoring unit within Analysis & Verification Directorate., To succeed in this role, you will:

Lead, collaborate and develop data infrastructure solutions at the TRA;

Extract and integrate data from across the organisation into existing and new workflows to allow the TRA to get the most out of its data;

Build trusted relationships with colleagues within case teams and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with them to develop TRA data standards and capability;

Be able to bring in, work with, and manage 3rd party suppliers to support our digital, data, and AI objectives.

Provide TRA teams with professional support through upskilling teams to get the most out of our data;

Collaborate with broader DDaT functions to develop products and services for use across the TRA;

Requirements
Technical Qualification: Degree level qualification in computing or equivalent level of experience with proficiency in a range of computing and web technologies. Essential Experience: Data Pipeline Development & Automation: Designing and building scalable ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines; automating data workflows using scripting languages; integrating APIs and handling secure data transfers; designing semantic layers and data models (e.g. star/snowflake schemas) Data Infrastructure: Experience with cloud platforms (Azure) to develop scalable solutions for small organisations and implementing data warehouses/data lakes using relevant tools and integrating data for use with scalable computing systems (such as Databricks). Data Integration: Working with structured and unstructured data from diverse sources (e.g. SharePoint, Oracle, Excel, HR/payroll systems), performing data mapping, cleansing, validation, and reconciliation. Business Intelligence & Reporting: Developing dashboards and reports using tools like Power BI and DAX and automating reporting processes and ensuring version control and creating tools and dashboards for public and internal use. Preferred Experience: Advanced Analytics & AI Integration: Applying Natural Language Processing (NLP), Optical Character Recognition (OCR), and Machine Learning (ML) techniques and deploying AI models for tasks like document processing, anomaly detection, and forecasting. Experience in utilising scalable compute systems. Data Compliance: Ensure data is handled and utilised effectively within the boundaries of the organisation's data governance processes, GDPR responsibilities, cyber policies, and UK Government Functional Standard GovS 005. DevOps: Experience in CI/CD pipelines to automate testing and deployment of pipelines (e.g. GitHub Actions, Jenkins), experience in version control tools (e.g. Git), and experience in tools designed to monitor pipeline health and data quality (e.g. Prometheus, Grana, ELK Stack)., Degree level qualification in computing or equivalent level of experience with proficiency in a range of computing and web technologies.
