Job description
As a Fuel System Lead Engineer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of fuel system components and architecture across multiple vehicle platforms. This includes leading the design, development, validation, and integration of fuel tanks, lines, pumps, and associated control systems to meet performance, regulatory, and sustainability targets.
You will operate within the Powertrain Engineering function, collaborating with cross-functional teams including Vehicle Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Suppliers to ensure robust and innovative fuel system solutions.
Area of Responsibility
- Lead the design and development of fuel system components from concept to production
- Own the technical delivery of fuel system features aligned with programme milestones
- Ensure compliance with global emissions and evaporative regulations (e.g. WLTP, EPA, CARB)
- Drive resolution of technical issues using structured problem-solving tools (e.g. 8D, FMEA)
- Manage supplier relationships and oversee component sourcing and validation
- Support virtual and physical builds, including prototype and production phases
- Deliver system-level DFMEA, DVP&R, and ensure alignment with customer's Product Creation Delivery System (PCDS)
- Collaborate with CAE teams to validate system performance and durability
- Champion sustainability and lightweighting initiatives within fuel system design
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers
Requirements
- Proven experience in fuel system engineering within automotive or related industries
- Strong understanding of fuel system architecture, materials, and regulatory requirements
- Familiarity with CAD tools (e.g. CATIA V5/V6), PLM systems, and simulation tools
- Experience with system engineering principles including V-Cycle and ASPICE
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or Systems Engineering (or equivalent)
Desirable Attributes
- Experience with hybrid or electrified powertrains and fuel system integration
- Knowledge of alternative fuels and future propulsion technologies
- Six Sigma or Green Belt certification
- Passion for innovation and continuous improvement
