Job description
The Barcelona Supercomputing Center is hiring a research engineer with high knowledge on Cybersecurity and Data-Centric Security, including data lake management, data-driven workflows design and engagement with event-driven applications.
This project is funded by the European Union's Recovery and Resilience Facility, in accordance with Council Regulation (EU) 2020/2094 of 14 December 2020, and regulated by Regulation (EU) 2021/241 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 12 February 2021, in the context of the "BSC AI Factory" project.
The BSC AI Factory project has received funding from the European High-Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (JU) under grant agreement No 101234399. The JU receives support from the European Union's Horizon Europe Programme and Spain, Portugal, and Türkiye., * Identify and build the processes that integrate the required digital models, either in cyber-ranges, digital twins and/or digital shadows.
- Design and develop cybersecure solutions for on-premise infrastructures.
- Co-design and development of a complex hybrid platforms integrating, among others, external services, data and user privacy management, workflow managers, AI/ML processes and management and integration of production-level services.
- Deliver high-quality, scalable and interoperable solutions that meet project requirements.
- Collaborate in achieving project deliverables according to the established plan.

Requirements
- Bachelor in Sciences (mathematics, telecommunications, physics, engineering, etc ). Master's degree in AI/ML, big data, data analytics or computer science will be highly appreciated.
- Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience

- AI/ML & Data Science Expertise (Mandatory)
- Deep knowledge of machine learning algorithms, data modeling, statistical analysis, and predictive analytics specifically applied to cybersecurity contexts.
- Proven experience developing and deploying ML models for real-time anomaly detection, threat classification, and behavioral analysis on large-scale security datasets.
- Strong proficiency in adversarial machine learning, including understanding of threats like model poisoning, evasion attacks, and data inference, with experience using frameworks like MITRE ATLAS for threat mapping.
- Ability to perform AI-specific threat assessments, red-teaming exercises, and adversarial testing on ML models and data pipelines.

- Data-Centric Security Architecture
- Experience designing and implementing data-centric security controls, including encryption for data at rest and in transit, secure data pipelines, and granular, role-based access controls.
- Expert understanding of data security and governance fundamentals and secure data life-cycle management.
- Demonstrated ability to secure training and inference data for AI systems, ensuring validation, logging, and protection against tampering.

- Data Engineering & Big Data Technologies
- Hands-on experience with massive security datasets (, logs, network flows, endpoint telemetry, user behavior analytics).
- Proficiency with big data processing frameworks (, Apache Spark, Kafka).
- Advanced coding skills, particularly in Python and relevant data analysis and ML model development libraries.
- Hands-on experience integrating ML models with security operations tools: SIEM platforms and threat intelligence feeds.

- Foundational Cybersecurity Knowledge
- Solid grasp of network security principles, intrusion detection, endpoint management, and vulnerability assessment to contextualize AI-driven findings.
- Understanding of security frameworks, threat detection systems, and incident response workflows.
- Experience with AI-driven SOC automation, such as automated log analysis and intelligent alert triage to reduce analyst workload.
- Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Knowledge on HPC applications and parallel programming models.
- Knowledge on Agile methodologies.
- Knowledge on Service oriented Architectures.
- Strong capacity for software design.
- Fluency in English is essential. Proficiency in Spanish and other European languages would be advantageous.
