Job description

At Cloudera, our Data Services Pillar is the heart of data innovation. We don't just work with technology; we build it. Our mission is to empower data practitioners by creating seamless, enterprise-grade experiences for data engineering, warehousing, streaming, operational databases, and AI.

Cloudera Data Warehouse (CDW) is a cloud-native, self-service data service to provide highly performant, independent, and scalable data warehouses - like Impala and Hive - for business intelligence (BI) and analytics workloads. It is a containerized application (a "Data Service") within the Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) deployed on Kubernetes into public and private cloud environments.

We are looking for an experienced engineer who is familiar with Kubernetes, Go and cloud technologies such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform to help us build robust and scalable data infrastructure software.

As a Staff Software Engineer you will:

  • Write product and test code for Cloudera Data Warehouse.
  • Lead mid-size development efforts, often mentoring less senior members of the widely distributed team.
  • Review code contributed by other members of the team.
  • Author design documents.
  • Review design documents.
  • Assist Customer Support in troubleshooting Cloudera Data Warehouse.

Requirements

  • Bsc/Msc in related field or equivalent experience
  • Strong containerization (e.g. Docker) and Kubernetes knowledge
  • 6+ years of experience writing software in Go or Java/C++.
  • Experience with cloud technologies such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and collaborative mindset.
  • Comfortable interacting online with a worldwide team.
  • Experience in on-call rotation to help ensure services stay up and running.

You may also have:

  • Experience with DevOps or Site Reliability Engineering.
  • Experience with performance analysis, troubleshooting, tuning, and capacity planning.
  • Experience with automating deployment of software to production instances and owning software releases.
  • Strong Linux and systems experience.
  • Experience with Jenkins and continuous integration.

Benefits & conditions

This is your opportunity to build cloud-native solutions that are deployable anywhere whether in massive clusters on any cloud provider or in private data centers. You'll work with cutting-edge technologies like Trino, Spark, Airflow, and advanced AI inferencing systems to shape the future of analytics. Your code will directly influence how data engineers, analysts, and developers worldwide find value in their data.

We believe in the power of open source. You'll collaborate with project committers, contributing upstream to keep technologies like Apache Hive and Impala evolving. You'll harden these engines for rock-solid security, optimize them for peak performance, and make them effortlessly run across all environments. Join us and help build the trusted, cloud-native platform that powers insights for the most data-intensive companies on the planet.

What you can expect from us:

  • Generous PTO Policy
  • Support work life balance with Unplugged Days
  • Flexible WFH Policy
  • Mental & Physical Wellness programs
  • Phone and Internet Reimbursement program
  • Access to Continued Career Development
  • Comprehensive Benefits and Competitive Packages
  • Paid Volunteer Time
  • Employee Resource Groups
