Job description

Azure Platform Engineering & Operations:

  • Designing, deploying, and maintaining Azure cloud services, including virtual machines, storage, databases, networking components, and connectivity services.
  • Supporting and improving Azure operational practices including monitoring, performance optimisation, and troubleshooting of cloud workloads.
  • Participating in incident resolution and root-cause analysis, contributing to preventative improvements and operational runbooks.

Networking, Connectivity, and Security:

  • Managing and optimising Azure networking, including VNets, routing, private endpoints, DNS considerations, firewalls, and hybrid connectivity.
  • Implementing and maintaining identity, access, and security controls using Azure RBAC, policy frameworks, and governance best practices.
  • Applying secure-by-default patterns using managed identities, secrets management (e.g., Key Vault), environment separation, and least-privilege access.

DevOps, CI/CD, and Infrastructure-as-Code:

  • Building and improving CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps (preferably YAML) to support reliable deployments of infrastructure and applications.
  • Introducing and standardising Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Bicep or Terraform) to reduce manual configuration and improve repeatability, consistency, and auditability.
  • Developing automation solutions to streamline operational processes and improve delivery efficiency (e.g., scripting, automated provisioning, deployment validations).

External-Facing Services (Client Portal & AI Platforms):

  • Supporting services used primarily by internal users globally, while also helping operate selected external-facing services, including the client portal.
  • Helping deploy and operate internally released open-source software, including hosting, secure configuration, environment management, monitoring, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Ensuring appropriate operational controls for internet-facing workloads (e.g., reliability, patching, access controls, logging/alerting, secure connectivity).

AI Enablement & Integration:

  • Supporting delivery of AI-enabled solutions using Azure OpenAI, Azure Cognitive Services, and Copilot Studio.
  • Contributing to practical AI proofs-of-concept and the transition of successful PoCs into secure, supportable services.
  • Supporting platform considerations for AI workloads such as access controls, environment separation, monitoring, and cost awareness.

Documentation and Collaboration:

  • Collaborating with infrastructure, development, security, and data teams to deliver high-quality cloud and AI-enabled solutions.
  • Producing documentation, diagrams, configuration details, and operational guides to support the wider technology organisation.

Requirements

  • Practical experience working with Azure cloud services, including compute, storage, databases, networking, and identity controls.
  • Strong understanding of Azure governance and security, including RBAC, policy, least privilege, and secure operational practices.
  • Solid foundational experience in Azure networking: VNets, routing, private endpoints, DNS, firewalls, hybrid connectivity.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps, especially CI/CD pipelines (YAML preferred) and deployment/release practices.
  • Practical experience implementing Infrastructure-as-Code in Azure (e.g., Bicep or Terraform) and helping teams adopt repeatable patterns.
  • Experience contributing to automation in cloud or enterprise environments (e.g., scripting with PowerShell/Python).
  • Experience with monitoring and observability in Azure (e.g., Azure Monitor / Log Analytics / Application Insights or equivalent).
  • Awareness of AI concepts and experience supporting or integrating Azure OpenAI / Cognitive Services / Copilot Studio (hands-on experience beneficial).
  • Comfort supporting both internal systems and selected external-facing services with appropriate reliability and security considerations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, clear communication, and a collaborative approach.
