Applications Architect - Modernisation

Due to the customer requirements successful applicants must be eligible for high level UK Security clearance. Frequent travel to DXC & Customer sites., As part of our overall investment and growth strategy in the UK we are hiring experienced Application Architects to join our team.

• The Application Modernisation Architect is responsible for leading the transformation of legacy applications into modern, scalable, and cloud-native solutions. This role involves assessing existing systems, designing future-state architectures, and guiding development teams through the implementation of modern technologies and practices. The architect ensures alignment with business goals, technology standards, and security requirements.
• Over time you'll have the opportunity to work on a wider range of assignments, e.g Software development, platform automation, applications management, across a broad portfolio of client from many sectors e.g., Public Sector, Health, Finance, Energy, Transport, Retail, and Manufacturing, encompassing a wider range of business challenges.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

• Assessment & Strategy:

• Evaluate legacy applications and infrastructure to identify modernisation opportunities.
• Develop modernisation roadmaps aligned with enterprise architecture and business strategy.
• Recommend appropriate cloud platforms, microservices architectures, and modernization patterns (e.g., rehost, refactor, rearchitect).

• Architecture & Design:

• Design scalable, resilient, and secure application architectures using modern technologies (e.g., containers, serverless, APIs).
• Define integration strategies with existing systems and third-party services.
• Ensure architectural decisions support DevOps, CI/CD, and agile delivery models.

• Technical Leadership:

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including developers, DevOps engineers, and business stakeholders.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship on modernisation best practices.
• Lead proof-of-concept initiatives and technology evaluations.

• Governance & Compliance:

• Ensure solutions comply with enterprise security, data governance, and regulatory requirements.
• Establish architectural standards and documentation for modernised applications.

• Continuous Improvement:

• Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends in application modernisation.
• Promote innovation and continuous improvement across the application portfolio.

• Proven experience in application architecture and modernisation projects.
• Strong knowledge of public and hybrid cloud platforms.
• Expertise in microservices, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and API design.
• Familiarity with legacy systems (e.g., monolithic applications, mainframes) and migration strategies.
• Experience with Agile and DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies
• Awareness of emerging security issues
• Awareness of emerging AI trends such as generative AI, large language models, and edge AI, and their impact on application architecture., * Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Certifications in cloud architecture (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert).
• Experience with enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF).
• Agile certification
