This role is based in our Cardiff office., Were responsible for Land Transaction Tax and Landfill Disposals Tax. Our work raises revenue to support public services, like the NHS and schools, in communities across Wales. But thats not all, we're also involved with and support future tax design for Wales., As a Test Engineer within the Welsh Revenue Authoritys (WRA) Digital team, you will play a key role in ensuring the quality, reliability, and resilience of our cloud services. You will work across the full testing lifecycle, applying both manual and automated testing techniques to validate user focused solutions that support tax administration in Wales.
You will collaborate closely with developers, analysts, and delivery teams in an agile environment to embed testing early and effectively. Your work will directly contribute to the delivery of secure, accessible, and robust services that meet the needs of our users.

- Apply manual, automated and exploratory testing strategies to validate functionality across systems.
- Execute tests, record results accurately and report defects clearly.
- Track defects through their lifecycle, ensuring timely resolution and

- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the overall test strategy by providing feedback and suggesting enhancements based on project experience.
Automation & CI/CD Integration
- Develop and maintain automated test scripts using Playwright, Cypress or Selenium.
- Embed automated tests within CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, Jenkins) to enable rapid feedback and early defect detection.
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD workflows using Git and Azure DevOps, applying BDD/TDD practices where appropriate.
- Ensure robust version control and change management for all automated scripts.
- Drive continuous improvement of automation frameworks and testing processes to increase efficiency and reliability.
- Support full automation of testing across environments to reduce manual effort and accelerate delivery.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Publish regular test status reports, highlighting progress, defects and risks.
- Communicate clearly with stakeholders on testing progress, risks and
- Work closely with developers to form a shared understanding of the codebase and agree on functionality to be covered.
- Collaborate with business analysts to ensure acceptance tests reflect required business scenarios.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies and support iterative development.
- Liaise with third-party suppliers and partners to align testing approaches, share knowledge and ensure appropriate tools and practices are used.

Requirements

You approach challenges logically and creatively, finding effective solutions under pressure., Knowledgeable in performance and accessibility testing tools (e.g., JMeter, Axe, Wave) and familiar with CI/CD pipelines, including integration of automated tests to ensure quality across the delivery lifecycle., Experience in defect management and reporting, including tracking issues through to closure using tools like Azure DevOps or JIRA., Expert in at least one programming language (e.g., JavaScript or Python) for creating test automation scripts, with strong expertise in testing tools such as Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, or RSAT., Successful candidates must undergo a criminal record check.
