Job description

Are you a UX Research leaning UX Designer who thrives on solving complex problems through deep user understanding and evidence-led thinking? A highly regarded consultancy is seeking a mid-to-senior level Designer with a strong UX and research focus to support a nationally significant, data-driven organisation delivering critical services used across government, industry and the public.

This role is ideal for a designer who is far more interested in problem framing, user needs and experience strategy than visual styling or UI execution. You'll be working on complex, high-impact systems where insight, usability and informed decision-making genuinely shape outcomes., Operating within a consultancy environment, you'll lead UX-led design activity across complex digital products and services, with a strong emphasis on research, insight and experience definition rather than interface design.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Leading UX and product design activity from discovery through to evaluation
  • Planning and conducting user research to inform design decisions and product direction
  • Engaging with a wide range of users, including technical specialists, operational teams and policy stakeholders
  • Synthesising research into clear experience principles, user journeys and actionable recommendations
  • Collaborating closely with researchers, product managers and delivery teams to embed user-centred thinking
  • Supporting evidence-based decision-making in a data-rich, scientific and operational context

Requirements

You'll bring:

  • Strong experience as a UX or Product Designer working on complex digital systems
  • A clear research-led mindset, with confidence running or shaping research to inform design
  • Experience working in public sector, regulated, scientific or data-heavy environments (highly desirable)
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, facilitation and storytelling skills
  • A pragmatic, outcome-focused approach to design, prioritising clarity and usability over UI polish
  • Eligibility for UK Security Clearance (SC)

This is an excellent opportunity for a UX-focused designer with strong research capability to work on meaningful, nationally important digital services, influencing outcomes at scale - without being UI-driven.
