Job description
The role of IT Helpdesk Technician is to provide support and technical advice to ensure our staff can work efficiently. By enabling them to be both efficient and effective, you will take pride in contributing directly to the smooth running of our organisation. Reporting to the IT Operations Manager for Western Europe & Africa, you will play a key part in maintaining and supporting our IT equipment and staff., * Log and respond to incidents and service requests via our helpdesk, communicating resolutions clearly.
- Assist with IT projects, upgrades, and maintenance.
- Build, install, and support laptops, desktops, phones, and printers.
- Maintain server room equipment.
- Travel to sites when remote support isn't possible.
- Liaise with third-party vendors as needed.
- Maintain an inventory of all IT equipment and order components as required.
- Keep the server room and supplies organised.
Requirements
- Good understanding of user needs
- Experience working with hardware vendors and third-party providers
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
- Good communication skills and a team-player mindset
- Minimum 1 year's experience supporting Windows environments.
- Knowledge of Windows OS (XP, 7, 8.1, 10, 11)
- Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe applications
- Familiarity with helpdesk ticketing systems and ITIL basics
- Understanding of Windows Server (2008-2025) and virtualisation (Hyper-V, VMware)
- Basic TCP/IP networking knowledge and troubleshooting
- Experience with backup technologies
- Basic Office 365 knowledge, including Teams, Exchange Admin, and SharePoint
- Knowledge of Active Directory and Group Policy Manager
- Full UK driving licence (mandatory), To be eligible to work at ALS you must be a Citizen or Permanent Resident of the country you are applying for, or either hold or be able to obtain, a valid working visa.
