Akkodis is seeking an experienced Model-Based Systems Engineer (MBSE) to join our team supporting advanced defence and communications programmes in Portsmouth. This position is ideal for engineers with strong Satcom and mission systems experience who want to play a key role in designing, modelling, and validating complex systems using MBSE methodologies. You'll contribute to the development of advanced mission and communication architectures - defining, simulating, and validating system models to meet operational and performance requirements. Working closely with multi-disciplinary teams, you'll ensure technical integrity and full lifecycle alignment from concept through to delivery., * Define and maintain system baselines and architectures across the full lifecycle.
- Develop operational and system architectures within recognised frameworks (e.g., MODAF, NAF, DODAF).
- Create and maintain SysML/UML models in tools such as Enterprise Architect or Cameo.
- Ensure traceability between requirements, architecture, and design outputs.
- Conduct system-level analysis and trade studies to support key design decisions.
- Contribute to the simulation, verification, and validation of mission and Satcom systems.
- Apply MBSE principles to reduce design risk and support complex integration activities.
- Collaborate with systems, software, and hardware engineers to ensure technical consistency.
- Leverage Satcom experience to ensure effective integration of communication subsystems, RF components, and mission payload interfaces within system architecture.
Requirements
We're looking for a systems engineer with practical experience in defence, communications, or aerospace environments and a proven ability to apply MBSE to real-world complex systems - particularly within Satcom and mission system domains., * Proven Systems Engineering experience across the full lifecycle (requirements, design, V&V).
- Demonstrated expertise in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) using tools such as Enterprise Architect or Cameo.
- Strong background in Satcom, communications systems, or mission systems.
- Familiarity with architectural frameworks (MODAF, NAF, or DODAF).
- Hands-on experience with SysML/UML modelling techniques.
- Understanding of integration between software, hardware, and communications systems.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Must be eligible for UK SC (Security Clearance) - no visa sponsorship provided.
Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting defence or aerospace programmes.
- Knowledge of mission or communication architectures, system-of-systems integration, or RF communication subsystems.
