Job description

We are looking for a skilled Mainframe Support Engineer with strong AS/400 (IBM i) experience to support and maintain critical enterprise systems for a leading automotive organization in Germany. The role involves ensuring system stability, performance, and availability of core business applications that support automotive operations, dealer systems, and backend processes., Provide L2/L3 production support for Mainframe and AS/400 (IBM i) systems

Monitor system performance, batch jobs, and interfaces to ensure high availability

Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve incidents, service requests, and production issues

Support COBOL, RPG, CL programs, and batch scheduling activities

Work closely with application, infrastructure, and business teams to ensure smooth operations

Perform root cause analysis and implement preventive measures

Support system upgrades, patches, and maintenance activities

Maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and incident reports

Ensure compliance with security, audit, and automotive industry standards

Requirements

Do you have experience in COBOL?, Strong experience in Mainframe support and/or AS/400 (IBM i) environments

Hands-on experience with IBM i, RPG, CL, COBOL, JCL

Experience with batch job monitoring and schedulers

Good understanding of production support processes (ITIL preferred)

Experience supporting business-critical systems in large enterprises

Exposure to automotive systems or dealer-related applications is a plus

Soft Skills

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

Ability to work in a fast-paced production support environment

Good communication and stakeholder management skills

Willingness to work in shifts or on-call support, if required
