Job description

The post holder will be an excellent communicator and an experienced developer who has managed and supported staff within an agile environment focused on delivery. They will be confident in working with users and using a variety of development tools and techniques and be committed to quality and continuous improvement.

TIS is a national team and although we have two "hubs" in London and Manchester, you can base yourself from any NHS England office across the country subject to approval.

The Software Developer will work to produce innovative and high-quality software applications, products, and services following agile methodologies that are highly user centric.

The post holder will be an experienced developer who has worked in an agile environment focused on outcomes.

They will be confident in working with users and using a variety of development tools and techniques and be committed to quality and continuous improvement.

The software developers are the backbone of the team and work productively, with each other and other professions. They will develop a deep understanding of the (often complex) landscape of trainee and learner management and become proficient in this area as this will inform development choices.

The post holder will be an excellent communicator. They will champion and uphold the Technology Codes of Practice and Service Standards that promote user-centric design and iterative agile methods by default.

Earlier this year, the Government announced that NHS England will gradually merge with the Department of Health and Social Care, leading to full integration. The aim is to create a smaller, more strategic centre that reduces duplication and eliminates waste.

If successful at interview, we will initiate an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR). This retrieves key data from your current or previous NHS employer to support onboarding, including competency status, Continuous Service Dates (CSD), and annual leave entitlement. You may opt out at any stage of the recruitment process.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

We pick the best tools for the job. This means you will contribute to evolving the technology we use.

You should apply if you a working knowledge of most of the technologies we use and could develop expertise in some of them. Currently we use:

Requirements

Do you have experience in Web services?, We are looking for an experienced software developer familiar with a range of digital / web services and solutions, ideally where open source and cloud technologies have applied agile development methods. They will work independently and in the team, with a high degree of proactively and adaptability to changing circumstances and demands.
