Job description
GlobalFoundries is seeking a motivated Tapeout Systems/Tapeout Operations Engineer to join its Global Tapeout and Mask Organization in Dresden, Germany. This entry-level role offers graduates a strong start in the semiconductor industry, focusing on high-quality tapeout processes and efficient cycle times. Responsibilities include designing future tapeout systems, performing daily operations like Design Rule Checks and mask data preparation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure timely mask releases. The ideal candidate should possess strong engineering fundamentals, problem-solving abilities, scripting skills, and a drive for continuous improvement. Excellent communication and adaptability in a fast-paced environment are essential, and occasional travel may be required.
Your Job
- Contribute to the design and development of next-generation Tapeout Systems that convert physical designs into photomask data.
- Support daily Tapeout Operations activities, including DRC checks, data preparation, and coordination of work across global teams.
- Work closely with Fabs, OPC teams, Tapeout Logistics, and Tapeout Integration groups to help ensure smooth and accurate tapeouts to RTM.
- Collaborate with teams across Global Tapeout Operations to identify opportunities for workflow improvements that enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and shorten cycle times.
- Assist in troubleshooting technical issues and contribute to multiple ongoing projects by applying strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Learn and adopt new technologies while supporting both short-term operational tasks and longer-term strategic initiatives.
- Help create and maintain documentation, best practices, and training materials to support consistent execution of Tapeout Operations.
- Support process documentation efforts, including identifying potential failure modes and contributing to mitigation and detection strategies.
- Carry out all responsibilities safely and responsibly while supporting Environmental, Health, Safety & Security programs.
Requirements
- Master or Bachelor degree in electrical engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry or related field of study
- Knowledge of design and manufacturing of Integrated Circuits in Sub micron technologies
- Knowledge of Eletronic design Automation (EDA) tools - physical layout design and verification - Calibre DRC/LVS, Cadence Virtuoso
- First experience with scripting languages (TCL, Python, Perl Shell)
- Linux user, be able to operate on a UNIX environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Fluent in spoken and written English (at least C1)
- Should be flexible as a team player and motivated as an Individual Contributor, * Knowledge of the Photo Mask Making process
- Familiarity with Product Layouts, KERF or FRAME Design, EDA tools such as Cadence Virtuoso, Mentor Calibre are highly desirable
- Experience in Structured Problem Solving (SPS)
- Technical Program Management skills
