Job description
We currently have an opportunity for a Cloud Finops Engineer to join our Cloud Compute Services team. You will be supporting the operation of Arup's cloud compute services in a global team that has responsibility for implementing and managing organisational wide, fit-for-purpose, cloud-based infrastructure. This role is particularly looking for those with experience of supporting, the financial operations of cloud economics.

What are the key responsibilities of the role?

Design, implement, and perform domain-specific FinOps functions.

Drive FinOps adoption and embed financial/cost management practices into day-to-day operations.

Lead and own initiatives and projects, demonstrating valuable leadership.

Identify and resolve blockers to realising value from cloud platforms.

Track and manage operational and project costs, including annual operational budget planning.

Engage in technical conversations with other technology teams, influencing prioritisation of cost optimisation and FinOps-related initiatives. What does a typical day look like?

Collaborate with business and IT teams to define and manage financial management practices.

Monitor and optimise cloud costs through billing and invoice management, cost chargeback/showback, and utilisation tracking.

Reporting progress on cloud financial management initiatives.

Lead projects and initiatives, ensuring alignment with organisational goals.

Requirements
- Demonstratable experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and their financial components (cost & usage reports, reserved instances, savings plans, committed use discounts, enterprise discount programs, spot pricing, etc.).
- Proven experience establishing and operating cost optimisation initiatives across complex platform and cloud environments, focusing on key levers for financial efficiency.
- Experience implementing cloud chargeback and/or showback mechanisms for business units or projects to ensure accountability for cloud usage and spend.
- Strong skills in interrogating billing and usage data to create cost insights, reports, and dashboards across cloud, license, partner, and operational budgets.
- Advanced data/financial analysis and reporting capabilities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to work with senior executives and drive outcomes with a can-do attitude.
