Job description
We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer who enjoys taking ownership, thinking beyond individual tickets and actively shaping a growing platform.
In our environment, backend engineering means more than implementation. You will be involved in technical decision-making, architectural evolution and improving how we build and run our systems. As we grow, this role can naturally evolve towards technical leadership or a lead position, depending on your interests and strengths.
What You'll Do
- Drive the further development of our backend systems and services
- Take part in architectural decisions and backlog prioritization
- Refactor and improve existing codebases, reducing technical debt
- Build and enhance APIs to make our platform more accessible and scalable
- Automate internal processes to support business teams and customers
- Take shared ownership of DevOps topics, including deployment, monitoring and reliability
- Orchestrate Docker containers for stable deployments on AWS
- Build and maintain automated deployment pipelines (e.g. Drone.io, Cypress)
- Create and maintain clean, sustainable documentation
Requirements
- Strong experience with backend development in a production environment
- In-depth understanding of Django and Django REST framework or similar
- Python proficiency (must-have)
- Hands-on experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD, containerization and cloud environments
- Experience with Docker and AWS; OpenSearch and monitoring tools are a plus
- A pragmatic, quality-driven engineering mindset with a sense of ownership
- Ability to balance code quality, delivery speed and system reliability
- Enjoyment of working in a collaborative team that shares responsibility and impact
- Bonus skill: a surprisingly solid taste in bad music for the perfect sprint song
Benefits & conditions
We work in a team with a strong sense of ownership. We value clean code, thoughtful architecture and pragmatic solutions over over-engineering.
We take our work seriously because it matters - but we don't take ourselves too seriously. Trust, openness and mutual respect are core to how we collaborate, and we believe that great software is built by teams that enjoy working together.
What We Offer
- The opportunity to build technology with real social impact
- A senior role with room to grow into technical leadership
- High level of ownership and influence on architecture and product decisions
- Flexible work setup: remote work and an office in the heart of Vienna
- A motivated, international team with strong collaboration
- Flat hierarchies and short decision-making paths
- Time and space for technical quality, refactoring and sustainable solutions, The actual salary depends on your qualifications and experience and is between 3,900 EUR and 5,000 EUR gross per month (on a 38.5 hour basis). The salary is paid 14 times per year.
If you are excited about building scalable backend systems that actually make a difference, and you want to grow together with a purpose-driven team, we'd love to hear from you.
