About the company

At OCLC, we believe you'll do the best work of your life when you're living the best life possible. We work hard to build the technology that connects thousands of today's libraries. But we also work hard to make a job at OCLC a meaningful part of a balanced life- not a substitute for one. If you would like to contribute to the growth and quality of the biggest library catalogue in the world, you found your dream job! OCLC is looking for a Metadata Specialist for WorldCat. OCLC has multiple data ingest teams worldwide. At the European headquarters of OCLC in Leiden, we are looking for a result-driven and communicative metadata specialist who will load bibliographic metadata Worldcat. Your focus In this job you transform metadata describing the collections of the library, for them to share and use in WorldCat, in support of our products and services. At first for visibility in WorldCat, later this will be expanded to WMS (WorldShare Management Services; our library management system), Discovery, and possibly also e-content, repositories, Wise, etc. Simply put, you make the metadata look good on the inside (database) so it makes its way to the outside (for staff and end-users of libraries) in the best possible way. Your focus is on analysis, testing, correcting, specifying, possibly converting, and loading data to WorldCat. Our organization, the technology we use, and the library world, are constantly changing and we want to stay current and on track. Hence, depending on your talents and interests, there are also other activities you can contribute to, like: knowledge management within the teams, writing and testing instructions and other documentation, training and improving how we train, 3rd line customer support, communicating and triaging production issues, but also testing newly developed features and giving input to developers for improving the systems you work with.
