Job description
As a Junior Test Engineer, you will play a crucial part in ensuring that customer systems meet Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and TEMPEST requirements, directly contributing to the safety, performance and compliance of critical defence and security systems.
Day-to-day, you'll support the planning, setup and execution of EMC/TEMPEST tests, work with customer equipment, perform hands-on measurement activities and contribute to the creation of detailed test documentation under UKAS accreditation.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the development of EMC test plans under guidance
- Setting up customer equipment for EMC and TEMPEST testing
- Conducting EMC/TEMPEST measurements using specialist RF equipment
- Analysing test data and contributing to detailed technical test reports
- Working closely with senior engineers and customers to support successful test delivery, This role is 37 hours per week based at Farnborough. Set working times are Monday-Friday, on-site 5 days per week. Travel to other QinetiQ and customer sites will be expected.
Requirements
Essential experience of the Junior Test Engineer:
- Strong interest in RF engineering, EMC or electronics testing
- Experience or exposure to hands-on electronics or RF measurement activities
- Ability to write clear and concise technical documents including test plans and reports
- Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with customers
- Willingness to work away from home in the UK or overseas for short periods
- Ability to set up and use oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analysers, antennas or similar equipment, * Electrical or electronics-based Apprenticeship at NVQ Level 3
- Or HNC/HND in an electrical or electronics discipline
- Demonstrable academic or project experience in electronics, EMC or RF
