Job description
As a Principal Data Engineer at Plain Concepts you will be a technical reference, responsible for guiding the evolution, quality, and consistency in data projects. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with strategic enablement: supporting proposals, strengthening shared knowledge, defining the offering, mentoring engineers, and driving the growth of the discipline's community. This is not a people-management or delivery-management role; it is a technical leadership and community-building role.
You will be responsible for:
#Technical Quality & Proposals

Ensure the technical quality of proposals, RFP responses and solution definitions within the discipline.

Support Sales by leading the technical approach, architecture and vision in opportunities.

Provide expert input during pre-sales conversations, scoping sessions and early project shaping. #Knowledge & Community Leadership

Own the shared knowledge strategy of the Chapter, ensuring relevant content, documentation and best practices are available.

Work closely with Chapter Chairs, empowering them to organize sessions, curate content and coordinate community activities.

Ensure the Chapter remains active, relevant and valuable by promoting cross-team collaboration and continuous learning. #Mentoring & Professional Growth

Lead the mentoring framework within the Chapter, enabling senior engineers to guide practitioners at all levels.

Recommend learning paths, certifications and development milestones aligned with the Chapter's expertise. #Talent Identification & Engagement

Helps to identify strong technical talent across the company that aligns with the discipline.

Encourage and motivate these engineers to participate in Chapter initiatives, knowledge-sharing activities, proposals, mentoring or offering development.

Create an environment where technical contributors feel ownership and pride in the growth of the discipline. #Offering & Technical Vision

Define, maintain and promote the discipline's offering, ensuring alignment with market needs and company strategy.

Identify emerging trends and opportunities, validating new services, accelerators and reusable assets. #Hands-On Contribution

Leading the architecture and kickoff of key projects.

Conducting assessments or expert consulting sessions.

Solving complex challenges as a technical reference.

Guiding teams during early project phases. #Technical Standards & Interviews

Define and maintain the technical interview standards and evaluation criteria for the discipline.

Support hiring processes by ensuring consistent, fair and high-quality technical evaluation.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in data engineering, including designing and building end-to-end architectures in cloud environments.
- Ability to engage with clients, understand their needs, and design technical proposals tailored to business goals.
- Experience in technical presales, including demos, solutioning, and proposal writing.
- Capable of leading projects independently and mentoring other engineers.
- Strong programming skills in Python, with hands-on experience in Apache Spark.
- Expertise with Databricks, Snowflake or Microsoft Fabric.
- Hands-on experience building data pipelines (CI/CD).
- Experience with testing (unit, integration, etc.).
- Experience with IaC (Infrastructure as Code).
- Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Bonus points for experience in Artificial Intelligence.
- Fluent in English and Spanish (mandatory).
- A strong team player mindset.
