Job description
- Designing, developing, testing and maintaining mobile or desktop apps using C# and .NET.
- Implementing user-facing features and core application functionality, fixing bugs and developing new capabilities.
- Writing clean, maintainable C# code (.NET 8+) and associated automated tests.
- Improving the quality, structure and testability of existing code as you work in the codebase.
- Contributing to the development and maintenance of REST APIs and supporting web services when required.
- Supporting released applications and services, including investigating and fixing issues.
- Working closely with electronics engineers, product specialists, UX designers and other developers to deliver robust solutions.
- Participating fully in planning, estimation and delivery of your team's work.
- Collaborating with stakeholders and customers to help clarify requirements and solve problems.
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of team practices and processes.
Organisational Responsibilities
- Uphold and actively support Smartbox's Quality Management System (QMS), contributing to continuous quality improvement, regulatory compliance and operational excellence.
- Support the company's sustainability goals through responsible working practices and consideration of environmental impacts in our day-to-day activities.

The successful applicant will also be asked to perform other duties on an ad-hoc basis and will need a proactive attitude to this., * We work in a hybrid way, so you'll have the flexibility to split your time between home and our Malvern or Bristol offices. You'll need to be in the Bristol office at least two days a week to stay connected with the team and collaborate in person.

Requirements
Do you have experience in iOS?, * Passionate about changing lives with assistive technology.
- 2+ years professional software development experience in modern C# or similar (e.g. Java, C++).
- Experience developing mobile or desktop apps on Windows and/or iOS.
- Experience with mobile or desktop app frameworks, such as Avalonia, WPF/XAML, or UIKit.
- Knowledge of Computer Science fundamentals in data structures, algorithm design, problem-solving, and complexity analysis.
- Excellent understanding of software design principles.
- Confident and experienced with automated testing, from unit tests to system and integration tests.
- Confident working on problems from scratch: resourceful in turning problems into simple solutions, and proactive in working with stakeholders to resolve ambiguity.
- Confident picking up an existing codebase, refactoring and improving test coverage to deliver safe code changes.
- Writing clean, working C# code and associated tests, and improving the standard of existing code as you touch it to make it more testable, reliable and maintainable.
- Willingness to develop across multiple platforms and architectures, including contributing to REST APIs and supporting web services where required.
- Versatility: enjoying turning your hand to new things, with a flexible approach to evolving business priorities.
- Experience working in an Agile or iterative development environment.
- Experience with professional software engineering practices, including code reviews, source control, CI/CD and build pipelines.
- Great interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong analytical thinking, with attention to detail.
Useful qualifications/skills/experience
- Experience building or consuming REST APIs using C# and ASP.NET Core.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
- Knowledge of secure coding practices and basic application security principles.
- Experience configuring build systems for .NET (e.g. TeamCity, Jenkins).
- Keen interest in the product and in understanding user needs.
- Experience with AAC or assistive technology., * Do you have 2+ years of professional software development experience in modern C# or similar (e.g., Java, C++)?
- Do you have experience working with mobile or desktop app frameworks, such as Avalonia, WPF/XAML, or UIKit?
