System Engineer (COBOL & Java)

We are looking for an experienced System Engineer to support the enhancement, modernization, and ongoing maintenance of a insurance application. Our system landscape includes long-standing COBOL-based applications as well as newer Java-based solutions. In this role, you will work on both legacy and modern platforms, helping ensure continuity, stability, and future readiness of our business-critical systems., * Maintain, enhance, and optimize existing COBOL applications running on mainframe environments.

• Develop and extend Java-based applications, including integration layers and backend services.
• Participate in the migration or modernization of legacy COBOL systems using Java and related technologies.
• Ensure the quality and reliability of applications through code reviews, testing, and documentation.
• Support production systems, troubleshoot issues, and implement fixes in a timely manner.

Do you have experience in SQL?, * Experience in COBOL development (mainframe environment preferred).

• Solid knowledge of Java (Java 8 or higher), including object-oriented programming and backend development.
• Familiarity with relational databases (e.g., DB2, Oracle, SQL).
• Ability to understand and maintain complex existing codebases.
• Strong problem-solving skills and structured working style.
• Good communication skills in German (Minimum B2) and English.
