Senior Solution Architect Virtual Machine platform

We are seeking a highly skilled and collaborative Solution Architect to lead the design and evolution of our Virtual Machine (VM) platform. You will work in close partnership with fellow Solution Architects responsible for related compute and infrastructure services to ensure alignment on guardrails, standards, integrations, and shared functionality across Rabobank's compute ecosystem.

You & your role

As a Solution Architect, you will be part of the leadership triangle - together with the Product Owner and Tech Lead - guiding the squad responsible for shaping the Virtual Machine platform service, driving architectural decisions, platform strategy, and technical excellence. This includes:

Designing and standardizing VM services across Azure, AWS, and on-premises environments;

• Ensuring security and compliance for these services;
• Embedding VM services within the bank's broader technology ecosystem;
• Optimizing for cost efficiency and operational excellence;
• Promoting solutions higher-in-the-stack like containers, thus grdually limiting the footprint of virtual machines.

You bring structure to a flood of information and diverse interests - from technical standards to organizational frameworks. You don't just think in solutions, but in principles, frameworks, and long-term vision.

The Virtual Machine Capability

The VM capability is part of the area Engineering Services, where Rabobank's multi-cloud infrastructure is offered in a structured and curated self-service manner to hundreds of DevOps squads. Besides VMs, the technology landscape includes containers, databases, and various SaaS implementations.

We deliver secure and resilient Virtual Machine platforms across on-premises, Azure, and AWS, serving as a reliable foundation for our (internal) consumers to run and grow their workloads.

You'll collaborate closely with other Solution Architects in the area, each with their own infrastructure expertise. Together, you form the backbone of Rabobank's technology strategy.

Top 3 responsibilites

Architectural Leadership

• Define and evolve the architecture of the Virtual Machine platform;
• Ensure scalability, security, reliability, and maintainability of the platform;
• Align platform architecture with enterprise standards and cloud best practices.

Cross-Platform Collaboration

• Co-develop common guardrails, standards, and integration patterns with other compute and infrastructure architects;
• Promote interoperability and consistency across VM environments (Azure, AWS, on-premises);
• Share learnings and innovations across platform teams.

Team Leadership

• Co-lead the VM platform team with the Product Owner and Tech Lead;
• Guide engineers in implementing architectural decisions and platform capabilities;
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Collaborate with security, compute, storage, networking, and application teams to ensure platform alignment with organizational needs;
• Communicate architectural vision and roadmap to stakeholders and leadership.

Innovation & Strategy

• Stay ahead of industry trends in virtualization, cloud compute, and platform engineering;
• Drive adoption of automation, Infrastructure-as-Code, and self-service capabilities.

• Deep knowledge of and experience with Virtual Machines in Public Cloud (Azure, AWS) and on-premises environments;
• The ability to think conceptually and execute practically;
• The ability to translate the big picture into actionable steps and vice versa;
• Energy and joy in aligning with squads and engineers;
• Experience working in complex enterprise environments;
• Strong communication skills (in English) and a natural sense of collaboration;
• A structured mindset and the confidence to provide direction.
• Knowledge of security and compliance in regulated environments;
• Experience working in agile product teams.

• Salary: Gross monthly salary between EUR 5,876 and EUR 8,395 (scale 10) for a 36-hour work week.
