As we celebrate this milestone, we're continuing to invest in our people, our laboratories and our technical capabilities and we're now looking for a Senior Test Engineer to join our Fire Suppression Laboratory in Hemel Hempstead. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in protecting lives, buildings and communities by ensuring fire suppression products meet the highest standards of safety, quality and performance. About the Role As a Senior Test Engineer, you will take responsibility for testing a wide range of fire suppression systems and products against recognised product quality and safety standards, ensuring they are safe, compliant and fit for purpose. Alongside hands-on testing, you will act as a technical leader within the laboratory environment, supporting project delivery, reviewing standards, developing procedures and helping to grow the capability of the wider team. This role offers a meaningful blend of engineering excellence, leadership, mentoring and project responsibility. Key Responsibilities
- Carry out product evaluation and testing for safety, performance, efficiency and fitness for purpose
- Produce clear, accurate and high-quality technical test reports
- Lead or support project delivery, including quotation work and client liaison
- Act as a technical expert in reviewing standards and developing testing procedures
- Train, mentor and support the development of colleagues across the laboratory
- Deputise for the Team Manager when required
- Perform internal audits across laboratories
- Build positive, professional relationships with clients and stakeholders
- Liaise with calibration teams to ensure correct equipment use and maintenance
- Ensure compliance with ISO 17025, quality systems and legislative requirements
- Maintain excellent laboratory standards, housekeeping and data management
- Proactively identify, report and escalate risks to quality, safety or performance
Requirements
- HNC/HND qualification in a relevant engineering or technical discipline or equivalent industry experience
- Experience working in a product testing, laboratory or technical engineering environment would be beneficial
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Confidence in producing clear, structured technical reports
- Good IT skills (MS Office or equivalent)
- Excellent organisation, accuracy and attention to detail
- Experience supporting, mentoring or developing others
