Job description
We are looking for a Design Engineer to join our growing engineering team. This is a hands-on, varied role at the heart of our Design and R&D activities, ideal for someone who enjoys taking ideas from concept through to prototype and into production.
You will work closely with Sales, Manufacturing, and Service teams to ensure our products are practical, reliable, and commercially viable. We operate a 38-hour, 4-day working week (Monday-Thursday) and actively support structured career development in a supportive, safe, and innovative environment.
Key Responsibilities
Product Design & Development:
· Contribute to the design, development, and continuous improvement of Arcus products.
· Produce 3D CAD models, drawings, and supporting documentation using SolidWorks.
· Support R&D activities, including the design, assembly, and testing of products.
Prototyping & Hands-On Engineering
· Build and test prototypes of Arcus products.
· Participate in practical problem-solving and iterative design improvements based on test results.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
· Work closely with Sales and Manufacturing to ensure smooth transition from design to production.
· Support job costing, materials selection, fabrication methods, and production processes.
· Develop an understanding of customer applications and business requirements.
Customer & Site Support:
· Visit customer sites for engineering assessments, installations, commissioning, and service support.
· Travel within the UK and internationally as required.
Personal & Professional Development:
· Actively contribute to your own personal, professional, and technical development plan.
Requirements
Do you have a valid Driving Licence license?, Do you have experience in SolidWorks?, Essential:
· Third-level engineering qualification (HND/HNC/Degree) or relevant industry experience.
· At least 1 year's experience in a design engineering role or relevant degree placement year.
· Knowledge of manufacturing methods and processes.
· 3D CAD experience (SolidWorks or similar).
· Strong commitment to quality, accuracy, and engineering best practice.
· Full, clean UK driving licence.
· Strong analytical, numerical, and data-analysis skills.
· Competence with Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, To Do).
Desirable:
· Experience collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
· Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
· Understanding of fluid power systems, pneumatic systems and basic electrical control circuits.
· Experience managing deadlines and balancing multiple priorities.
· Familiarity with Health & Safety practices in a manufacturing environment.
· Hands-on mechanical aptitude with a willingness to build and test equipment., * Design Engineer: 1 year (required)
Benefits & conditions
· Salary: £28,000 - £32,000 (Dependent on experience).
· Working pattern: 38-hour, 4-day working week (Monday-Thursday).
