Job description
Our client a quantitative and systematic hedge fund looking for a Cloud Engineer. This role sits within a globally distributed quantitative research and engineering organisation where you will design, build, and evolve advanced cloud platforms that power large-scale modelling, complex data analysis, and high-throughput experimentation. You will work directly with researchers and engineers to architect bespoke cloud environments, enabling rapid iteration, secure computation, and efficient scaling across a wide range of analytical workloads. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled cloud engineer with deep architectural experience, a passion for automation, and a strong understanding of modern research-driven compute environments. You be comfortable owning end-to-end technical decisions, and enjoy building infrastructure that directly accelerates scientific and analytical innovation. This is a high-impact role for someone who thrives in technically demanding, fast-moving environments.
Requirements
Responsibilities: Design and deploy tailored AWS architectures that support high-performance modelling, experimental workloads, and large-scale compute pipelines. Collaborate closely with research, engineering, and data teams to build flexible, secure, and scalable cloud environments aligned with demanding analytical requirements. Ensure exceptional reliability, availability, and performance across compute, storage, orchestration, and monitoring layers. Automate cloud provisioning, configuration, and observability using modern IaC and DevOps practices to accelerate development cycles. Continuously refine and optimise cloud systems for scalability, cost-efficiency, operational simplicity, and long-term platform evolution. Requirements: Previous experience in cloud engineering or architecture experience with strong hands-on expertise in AWS environments. Deep understanding of core AWS services including container orchestration, compute, storage, networking, monitoring, and identity/security services. Proven ability to design secure, resilient, and highly available cloud platforms for data-intensive or compute-heavy environments. Strong familiarity with DevOps and IaC tooling (e.g., Terraform), containerisation, Kubernetes, and modern cloud-native patterns. Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and cross-team collaboration skills, with the ability to operate confidently in fast-paced technical environments.
