Job description

  • Design, develop, and iterate on educational games using Unity or similar platforms
  • Build core gameplay mechanics that directly support learning outcomes
  • Collaborate with researchers and educators to prototype, test, and refine new ideas
  • Implement child-friendly UI/UX with a strong focus on accessibility and inclusivity
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code in C# (and C++ where required)
  • Integrate games with web-based platforms, data collection tools, and backend services
  • Optimise game performance across devices commonly used in educational settings
  • Support structured testing, feedback, and refinement cycles as part of ongoing R&D work

Requirements

Do you have experience in Unity?, * Strong experience working with Unity or a similar game engine

  • Proficiency in C#, with a working knowledge of C++
  • Proven experience designing and building games (not solely implementing existing assets)
  • Experience integrating games with web-based platforms and/or developing mobile games
  • A clear interest in, or experience with, educational technology or learning-focused products
  • Available to work full-time and able to start at short notice
  • Comfortable working within a hybrid working model
  • Portfolio required (playable builds, videos, or code repositories)

Highly Desirable:

  • Experience developing children's games or age-appropriate interactive content
  • Understanding of child-centred design, accessibility standards, or inclusive gameplay principles
  • Familiarity with user testing, research-led iteration, or prototype-driven development
  • Experience with data capture, analytics, or evaluation tools used in educational research

About the company

We are an educational organisation seeking a skilled and creative Game Developer to join our team on a full-time basis as part of an education-focused Research & Development project. This role involves designing and developing games for learning, with a strong emphasis on engagement, accessibility, and age-appropriate experiences for children. You will play a key role in creating interactive educational games and prototypes, working closely with researchers, educators, and technical teams to translate learning objectives into meaningful and engaging gameplay.
