Job description
The Technical Support Officer will be responsible for the provision of a range of technical support services in relation to school and Project based network systems.
RESPONSIBLE TO:
The Technical Support Officer will be responsible to the C2k (EdIS) Technical Manager initially and then will be responsible to the Systems Analysts., The post holder will provide, under the direction of line management, a range of technical support services to support the ongoing technical feasibility and acceptability of a range of C2k (EdIS) services. Scope and Context
The postholder will assist with the provision of technical support in relation to system configuration elements of the C2k (EdIS) Service as directed by line management., * Install, test and upgrade integrated software systems on both PC Networks and standalone systems;
- Assist with the resolution of technical problems;
- Assist with software and hardware testing;
- Assist in monitoring the effectiveness of service provider ICT solutions for the delivery of the C2k (EdIS) services;
- Assist in the technical evaluation of proposals from service providers with regard to infrastructure change, refresh and enhancement and provide input to feasibility and suitability;
- Assist in technical evaluations of any technical design and discussion papers produced by service providers or any other source impacting on the C2k (EdIS) service;
- Assist in the provision of technical expertise and support in relation to C2k (EdIS) development and testing processes;
- Adherence to the testing protocols and procedures defined in the formal acceptance of service provider solutions prior to enterprise wide deployment;
- Contribute to the maintenance of the Authority's test networks for software and hardware releases;
- Contribute to the development of Systems and Procedures documentation;
- Implement current procedures for system maintenance, backup and the use of anti-virus software;
- Fulfill such other duties consistent with the general role outlined above as may be required by line management

The successful candidate will be required: to have access to a suitable vehicle (appropriately maintained and insured for Education Authority business) that will enable them to carry out the mobility requirements of the post in an efficient and effective manner and thus meet this essential criterion; OR be able to provide sufficient information on the application form that will satisfy the employer that he/she has access to an appropriate alternative form of transport that will enable them to carry out the mobility requirements of the post in an efficient and effective manner and thus meet this essential criterion. Requirements
Do you have experience in Teaching?, Hold a third level qualification in IT/Computer Science or related discipline plus 3 years' experience working with computerised systems in a diversified organisation;
OR
A minimum of 5 years' experience of working with computerised systems in a diversified organisation;
Familiarity with ICT systems / education technology systems in a diversified organisation;
A background in technical acceptance testing; Shortlisting by Application Form Knowledge
Have a good working knowledge of Microsoft network and desktop operating systems;
A logical approach to the resolution of technical problems., High level interpersonal skills
Good communication skills
The ability to liaise with and impart knowledge to the clerical, administrative and teaching staff within schools
The ability to meet tight deadlines and quality thresholds
The ability to work alone or as part of a team
Flexibility and responsiveness to service demands
