Job description
As an INS & IP Network Engineer at LMG, you will be part of our Active IT team, playing a key role in the design, implementation, and delivery of wired and wireless network solutions across a range of Smart Building projects.
This role is not vendor-specific and will involve working with multiple technologies and manufacturers, including Cisco, HPE/Aruba, and Ruckus. You will be responsible for configuring, installing, and supporting network infrastructure, ensuring secure, resilient, and high-performing network environments for our clients.
You will work closely with Design, Sales, and Project teams, supporting the full lifecycle from tender review and technical design through to installation, testing, client handover, and ongoing support.
What You'll Be Doing
- Configure, install, and replace network equipment including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
- Design, configure, and support wired and wireless LANs, including VLAN configuration and traffic segregation.
- Configure and maintain WLANs, carrying out fault diagnosis and field troubleshooting of network equipment.
- Modify and manage firewall rules and network security configurations, alongside monitoring and addressing security vulnerabilities.
- Design and deploy servers in both physical and virtual environments, including file structures, permissions, and access controls.
- Provide technical support for workstations, operating systems, and applications, helping to minimise downtime for users.
- Produce low-level design documentation and technical specifications, calculating and defining configurations across network hardware.
- Install and commission hardware on client sites in line with approved designs, managing installations from start to finish.
- Build and install temporary wall- and floor-mounted cabinets where required.
- Review tender documentation and support design development, ensuring solutions meet technical and compliance requirements.
- Build bills of materials, including engineering time estimates, to support accurate costing and proposals.
- Collaborate with internal teams and technology partners on extended solutions such as voice and in-building cellular systems.
- Carry out final testing, commissioning, and handover, including end-user training for client support teams.
- Explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Provide ongoing support and maintenance, including firmware updates, security patches, and break-fix support.
- Carry out pre- and post-installation wireless surveys using industry-standard tools to validate performance and coverage.
Requirements
Do you have experience in IP networking?, We're looking for a technically strong and proactive Network Engineer with a solid grounding in IP networking and a passion for delivering robust, secure, and well-designed solutions. The ideal candidate will bring:
- Strong knowledge of wired and wireless networking principles.
- Hands-on experience configuring and supporting enterprise network equipment.
- A methodical and security-focused approach to network design and implementation.
- The ability to produce clear technical documentation and low-level designs.
- Strong communication skills and confidence working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A collaborative mindset and willingness to support projects from design through to delivery and ongoing support., Essential:
- Cisco CCNA or CCNP.
- HPE / Aruba certifications (ACSA, ACSP, ACMA, or ACMP).
- Ruckus Implementer certification.
- At least 3 years' relevant practical experience in a similar networking role.
- Experience using wireless survey and design tools such as Ekahau.
Desirable:
- Minimum five GCSEs (A*-C / 4-9), including Maths or English.
- Three A Levels (A*-C) or equivalent UCAS points.
- Awareness of Audio Visual, Electronic Security, IoT, and wider Smart Building network architectures.
