Job description
The IT Project Manager is responsible for managing complex IT projects from inception to completion. This role requires a strategic thinker who can align project goals with the organisation's objectives, driving projects to be delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
The IT Project Manager will work closely with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and vendors to ensure project success and deliver high-quality results. Projects will span IT Infrastructure and Operations (e.g., cloud/on-prem platforms, networks, identity, end-user computing, monitoring/resilience) as well as application change and upgrades.
Main Responsibilities
Infrastructure & Operations
a. Change & Release Governance: RFCs, CAB, Maintenance Windows, Rollbacks, PIRs.
b. Cutover & Hypercare: Cutover runbooks, comms, on-call readiness, hypercare exit criteria.
c. Service Transition: Monitoring/ Alerting, Runbooks/ SOPs, Support Model (L1-L3), CMDB/ Asset Updates.
d. Resilience & Security Delivery: vulnerability remediation plans, backup/DR testing, audit evidence coordination.
e. Vendor Delivery Management: Telco/ MSP/ Hosting, Hardware suppliers, SOWs, Lead times, SLAs.
Business Systems
a. SDLC Delivery: Requirements, RAID, Sprint/ Release Planning (as applicable), Environment Coordination, Deployment readiness.
b. Testing/ UAT Management: Test Planning, UAT Coordination, Defect Triage, Go/ No-Go.
c. Business Change & Adoption: Training/ Comms where needed, Benefits Tracking
Project Planning: Aligned with the relevant architects and solution design resources, develop comprehensive project plans, including timelines, milestones, and resource allocation. Ensure that all project activities are aligned with the overall strategic goals of the organisation.
Team Leadership: Lead and motivate project teams, providing clear direction and support. Promote a collaborative and inclusive team environment to achieve project objectives.
Stakeholder Management: Engage with stakeholders at all levels to gather requirements, provide updates, and manage expectations. Foster strong relationships to ensure stakeholder buy-in and support throughout the project lifecycle.
Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize impact on project delivery. Proactively address issues and challenges to keep projects on track.
Performance Monitoring: Use project management tools to track progress, budget, and performance, adjusting as necessary.
Quality Assurance: Implement quality control measures to ensure that project deliverables meet the highest standards. Conduct regular reviews and assessments to identify areas for improvement.
Budget Management: Monitor project budgets and ensure that financial resources are used efficiently. Provide regular financial and status reports and updates to stakeholders.
Continuous Improvement: Stay current with industry trends and best practices in project management. Continuously seek opportunities to improve project processes and methodologies.
Requirements
· 5 years or more proven experience in IT project management. Managing projects using waterfall and agile methodologies.
· Delivery experience across infrastructure/ ops (e.g., cloud/ on-prem migrations, network refresh, IAM/ SSO, Endpoint rollouts, Backup/ DR, Office moves, Data Centre/ Hosting changes).
· Some delivery experience across business systems (e.g., application upgrades, integrations, platform releases).
· Proven track record of delivering change in high-availability environments with minimal disruption.
Functional expertise or method expertise
Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills. Adapt at building and developing relationships at all levels of the organisation. Strong supplier/vendor management and experience operating in change-controlled production environments.
Languages: Fluent in written and spoken English.
Education: Bachelor's degree in business, management, or a related field; PMP or similar certification is required. ITIL v4 Foundation certification is preferred.
Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with project management software and tools; exposure to service management tooling and change workflows is an advantage.
